A warmly authentic feel and, always a winner, owners who used to run a restaurant - the food is very good. A lovely hilltop location too

The Experience
Once a charterhouse in private parkland, this big, good-looking Perigord house, on a hill facing Domme, is a tribute to the rich sober taste of the area. Inside reflects outside: the same dark timbers against pale stone. The feel is warmly authentic and the owners have redecorated the bedrooms most charmingly, gradually replacing the modern furniture with country antiques. They used to run a restaurant; now there’s a big candlelit table for guests and you may find more gourmets in the beamed dining room (outsiders are occasionally allowed in). Outside: palm trees and pool. A gem.
