A lovely, rustic and very personal space, full of light from big shuttered windows. If you like the sound of an old barn conversion full of the owners’ friendly ‘abilia then a stay here will be like slipping on a pair of well-loved gloves. Wonky stone walls, wooden floors and chunky beams frame a warmly inviting living room with a collection of hats and books, sofas and a wood-burning stove. Through the archway there’s a study area and stairs to the bedrooms that are also simple, comfortable and homely, with sloping ceilings, brocante furniture and flowery curtains at floor-level windows. The cosy master bedroom has a wrought iron bed; the second room a single with a pull-out bed underneath. The shower room’s downstairs, along with the more modern kitchen extension. Sheena’s a keen cook so there’s plenty of good kit. Double doors lead to the big garden, full of wildlife, with table and chairs under the spreading chestnut tree; pasture and riding school beyond. So, handy for riding, walking and cycling in the Périgord Limousin National Park, and for the best bakery in the area in Milhac de Nontron. Limoges 45 minutes.
