The Experience

You’re down a tiny lane in the middle of a hamlet, and just further on is your own private riverside garden – perfect for a barbecue or wild swimming. Kit leaves you with wine, so pour a glass and watch the swans glide by.

Kit is an art dealer so you’ll find original and interesting artworks on the walls. The kitchen is well equipped and you can pick up things to cook from the local market; spill out onto the terrace on balmy evenings or walk ten minutes to Pessac if you’re feeling lazy.

You can explore the river by canoe or tour local vineyards. Medieval St-Émilion is half an hour’s drive away, Bergerac is 45 minutes and Bordeaux is an hour.

Location

The neighbourhood

Stroll ten minutes along the river to Pessac, which has a grocer’s, boulangerie and restaurants, or drive to lovely St-Émilion in half an hour – stroll around the medieval centre, shop for souvenirs or tour the underground catacombs. There are thousands of vineyards in the area; ask Kit about private tours and tastings at some of the best. Outdoor lovers will find much to enchant on the Dordogne River: wild swimming, boating, fishing and bird-watching.
