The Experience

It’s a painter’s paradise in the golden Dordogne triangle. Your pretty cottage-for-two has one of the most glorious views of rolling patchwork landscape you could wish for, an endless outdoors perfectly balanced by cosy intimacy inside. Restored in French country style with old stones and reclaimed windows, lots of antiques and classic fabrics, the ground-floor cottage displays its rural origins in its layout, each room leading to the next via a couple of steps. The sitting room armchairs invite you to lounge by the wood-burner on indoor days. The beautiful kitchen worktop is made of old wine-vat wood. Susie’s personal touches are painted furniture, soft colours, seagrass floors. You will be welcomed by your much-travelled hosts and their generous basket of goodies. They live next door and have organized the spaces for privacy on both sides. Markets and museums, fishing and kayaking, hiking and cycling: the list of activities is endless – or you can sit all day in a café in Issigeac or Monpazier and watch the world go by then gather a bottle of great local wine to take home and savour on your terrace.

Extremely relaxing - tranquil and secluded. Beautiful location. A very well-equipped cottage and a delightful pool to oneself.

A beautiful cottage in the heart of the countryside. An amazing place to relax and rejuvenate. A great house with gardens and pool. Who could ask for more? A wonderful place. Susie and Alastair are welcoming and know lots about the area. Highly recommended!

We had the most wonderful week at La Porcherie. Alistair and Susan were great hosts and went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and the views are breathtaking. Thank you again to Alastair and Susan for such a great holiday. We hope to be back!

La Porcherie is a superb place to stay. Set in a tranquil, private location, with extraordinary timeless views over a stunning countryside landscape dotted with Poplar trees and vineyards. The cottage is beautifully equipped and decorated, and Susie and Alastair are incredibly warm, engaging, and on hand for questions. For our arrival they left delicious provisions and an excellent wine to welcome us. The wonderful medieval villages and historical sites of the Dordogne are a short drive or day trip away and are all worth exploring. We highly recommend La Porcherie. Alison & Gerry

What an amazing place! So tranquil and relaxing. It really is a beautiful gem of a place. Well appointed, in perfectly maintained gardens; a private terrace and delightful pool, with views of vineyards and surrounding countryside. We have spent a wonderful week there; the owners were charming, discrete, making us feel very welcome. The cottage is comfortable, stylish, homely. One of our best holidays ever! The Bastide towns of Eymet, Issigeac etc are nearby and have a host of cultural and gastronomic delights to explore. We cannot recommend La Porcherie strongly enough!

This is truly a hidden gem perfect for a couple - We had a fantastic week Alistair and Suzie are absolutely charming, on hand for any questions and had equipped the fridge so thoughtfully that we had all the basics we required without having to rush to the supermarket . The gite is set in beautiful country side with a private pool ( worthy of a 5 star hotel) within driving distance of a number of interesting towns and vineyards and 20 minutes from Bergerac . We would highly recommend staying here

Local points of interest from Susie & Alastair Annfield

  • La Porcherie is attached to an 18th century farmhouse but is completely private, sheltered by woodland with spectacular views to distant hilltop villages. Stargaze, birdwatch or just revel in the tranquility of an uncluttered panorama and huge sky.
  • Gourmet interests are well catered for. A wide range of restaurants is within easy reach, from Michelin stars to artisan spots. .Village markets provide all the ingredients for delicious local dishes. There are herbs and fruit in the garden and orchard
  • Wine enthusiasts have an endless choice. Visit prestigious first growth chateaux in the Medoc and Bergerac appellation vineyards.Street markets offer stalls where local winemakers display their vintages. Luscious Monbazillac wine is produced 10 mins away.
  • Energetic guests have a wide selection of activities-2 first class 18 hole golf courses and kayaking (30 mins).Bikes can be hired and delivered.Coarse fishing is 5 kms away. Less strenuous but still alluring are walking trails through adjacent woodland
  • History is everywhere in this area,so integral to the events of the 100 years' war. Bastide towns and fortified chateaux reflect this turbulent period. There is the spectacular annual re-enactmentof the final battle of the war at Castillon-not to be missed
  • Open air antique markets offer an opportunity to find treasures from another era. Information on the above and La Porcherie is provided. Finally, for the indolent, a chance to lounge and bask with a book by the private pool or terrace, shaded by wisteria.
