The
Experience
On the outskirts of the village, the cottage appears modest alongside the just-renovated barn – Simon will meet you and show you around. The cottage has a biggish pool, three outside seating areas and a ping-pong table. The Barn has its own entrance, an outdoor seating area, a plunge pool and views over the walnut orchard. It’s a great place for a family holiday and works well for couples travelling together, or may be rented as one. There are free bikes available at the cottage with wonderful rides in the surrounding countryside; a 20-minute stroll away is the pretty river beach where you can canoe, water ski or rent a pedalo. In the cottage find a big welcoming sitting room and a kitchen that seats eight. Up steep stairs (watch toddlers) is the large master bedroom with air-conditioning and a smaller double; downstairs are two smallish doubles. The Barn is lofty, open and airy, with quirky lights, big stylish bedrooms and a sitting room tagged on the back. In summer you’ll be lingering under the stars. Don’t miss Bergerac, home of Cyrano, filled with fountains and half-timbered buildings, and famous for truffles and wines.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Karen Carter
- Tremolat Village is only a 15 minute walk away. It is the home to the 11 Century Church of St Nicolas. It also hosts 4 wonderful restaurants (one is the famous michelin star Le Vieux Logis) a quaint wine bar, a Boulangerie and its own Tourism office.
- The Cingle to Tremolat attracts many visitors. This is the bend in the river that gives rise to some beautiful views. If you are energetic you can climb or cycle to the top. The Restaurant Belvedere has the most spectacular view from the garden.
- Nearby villages such as Paunat and its Abbey church was built in the 12th Century is a must to visit. Chez Julian is a well known fabulous restaurant. My favourite village is the Bastide Limeuil on the banks of where the Dordogne and Vezzere Rivers meet.
- If you are a golfer we have any fabulous golf courses in easy reach of Les Chouettes we can direct you in any direction. Our favourite is at Chateau les Merles at Tuilliers.
- The Dordogne valley is notorious for is beautiful chateaux, castles, wonderful markets where one can buy delicious fresh ingredients to create a lovely meal at the end of any day. We can organise a tour to the chateau wineries or a home tasting.
- There are many annual festivals from Truffle, Foie gras, Chocolate, Wine, Mushroom and many summer festivals. Come and visit the history the area has to offer such as the 100years war- Beynac et Cazenac, Castlenaud, Sarlat-la-Caneda and many more.
