The Experience

Sip an aperitif by the pool as you gaze across the valley to the Castle of Castelnaud. This two-house property, linked by a new extension and surrounded by greenery, sits high above one of the most photographed villages of France: La Roque-Gageac.

Breakfast includes homemade yogurts, fruit tarts and jams; Frédéric and Laurence know how to feed you handsomely. Book into a session of gentle yoga beneath the trees or set off on a little trip down the Dordogne, on a wooden ‘gabare’ made to carry truffles, chestnuts and wine.

Return to a massage under the pergola, or a Perigourdine platter on your patio. Or stroll downhill though the magical bamboo forest to the terrace of La Belle Etoile – for dinner under the stars.

We stayed the entire week with our daughters and stepson. We had such a pleasant time and will remember the great moments with a gorgeous view from the terrace. Laurence and Frederic are wonderful hosts, doing whatever they can to make the best of your stay. They also shared their "precious" personal insights to let you find the " little gems " of this great Perigord area . Definitely a strongly recommended place !

What a wonderful stay with Frederic and Laurence, who couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. The house is delightful with beautiful views over the valley. It’s in a peaceful spot, yet close to so many sights. I can thoroughly recommend Les Hauts de Gageac

Kathryn, Cardiff

If this is your first visit to the Dordogne's 'golden triangle', then this is the place to be, so that you can retire to tranquillity and a great view after a hard day's sightseeing, where you will be welcomed by large-hearted, generous hosts whose only aim is to ensure your comfort and pleasure.

The neighbourhood

You’ll find restaurants and cafes a 10-minute walk away in La Roque-Gageac. The village lies in the heart of the bustling Dordogne, yet the B&B is high above, away from tourist hubbub. Canoe down the river, and gaze on the Chateau de la Malartrie above. Or visit the amazing fortress of Castelnaud, and its museum of medieval warfare (5km). For shops and cafes, Cenac is 10 minutes by car, while honey-coloured Sarlat, the France of dreams, is 20 minutes. The Saturday market is brilliant.

Local points of interest from Laurence Boileau

  • Labeled "Plus beau village de France", La Roque-Gageac is the most visited village in France after Mont Saint-Michel and Rocamadour. Let yourself be surprised by its 14th century church, its authentic streets, the beauty of its landscapes...
  • Near the house, you will can go easy and quickly at the most beautiful sites to visit : Domme village, Castelnaud, Beynac et Milandes Castle, Marquayssac gardens are are less than 10 minutes by car.
  • Very often, in the morning, deer and deer come to visit us at home. Each time, this show illuminates us.
  • Only ten kilometers away, Sarlat, capital of the Périgord Noir, will amaze you with its many listed historical monuments, its old streets, its gastronomic wealth.
  • One of our favorite places to Frédéric and me is the Maison forte de Reignac. A cliff-castle inserted into the rock where only the facade is visible. Entering this castle full of history will make you travel through time.
  • embark aboard a traditional barge or canoe for a discovery otherwise of the castles of the valley. We will can book them for you if you want.

Laurence Boileau

Laurence and Frédéric are incredibly welcoming, with a coffee on the table almost before you've taken your coat off. Foodies, they know the best restaurants as well as the attractions, and occupy the top floors of one of the houses.
