The Experience
This impressive stone house is tucked down a quiet lane just outside a pretty town, and although it feels peaceful and grown-up, Falko and Sandrine have young children so will welcome yours warmly.
A separate guest entrance leads into a hallway and up the staircase to the elegant rooms – there’s also a ground floor double with a private terrace. Dining here is a treat: Sandrine makes delicious patisseries, including home-made croissants for breakfast, and Falko is passionate about fresh produce and often organises wine tastings showcasing local oysters. Typically French dinners such as melon and cured ham, magret de canard and crumble aux figues are offered on weeknights, or walk 10 minutes into town to a bistro.
Borrow bikes and explore pathways around the house and town, or sit in the lovely garden and gaze out at the river with an aperitif from the bar. Historic Aubeterre-sur-Dronne is 20 minutes away, Bordeaux 45 minutes and the wine lover’s paradise, St Emilion, is 45 minutes.

Accommodation
Location
The neighbourhood
The house is on the edge of the pretty town of La Roche Chalais, which has a chateau with an intriguing history - it was once occupied by the English before being reclaimed by Francois VII. As the region's name suggests, the Perigord Vert is green and lush and there are plenty of places of interest close by, including Bordeaux and St Emilion.
Local points of interest from Falko Simpfendoerfer
- Property crossed by the river Dronne, ideally located for discovering the region. Bordeaux, Périgueux, Bergerac, Angouleme and Cognac are less than an hour away.
- Saint Emilion is a few kilometers away. We have partnerships with great vineyards and wine professionals. We can organize events around the wine within our property (Wine Casino, tasting course etc ...).
- Fitness and Yoga classes available too - book your slot with us!
- For those who love fishing, our place is ideal for it.
- A bar where you can drink local wine and beers

Introducing
Falko Simpfendoerfer
Welcoming and smiley Falko and Sandrine live on the other side of the house with their daughters. Falko is from La Roche Chalais and knew the house from his childhood. He met Sandrine in Paris and when the house came up for sale they decided to move here. They have undertaken a hugely impressive renovation of the house and still have many exciting projects up their sleeves, including building a swimming pool and beaches on either side of the river.
I loved Sandrine and Falko - their energy and passion for new projects is adorable with the young family they have in tow. He is full of pride about how far they have come. In the space of 6 months they knocked out walls and ceilings and turned a very drab property into something very lovely indeed. Great sized rooms in elegant colours and plenty of space outdoors for kids and adults alike.
