Allow yourselves to be seduced by the beautiful and sculptural vines of St Emilion in an 18th-century manor house, with meals being cooked by clever Laurent. Breakfast is served outside on warm days: a variety of breads, homemade jams and artisan butter, eggs with truffles in season, hams and cheese on request. Relax with a book in one of the five different sitting rooms – each one showcases Laurent and Mélanie’s passion for antiques and quirky contemporary design.
There’s an indoor and outdoor pool, massage rooms, sauna and jacuzzi and a fitness room overlooking the vines. There are bicycles to borrow or electric ones to hire, vineyards all around you and abundant wildlife to spot. Lunch can be a snack or two courses, dinner is three courses and Laurent is passionate about food – even researching how to cook the largely-forgotten Lamprey.
Play petanque on the boulodrome, or listen to some vinyl indoors – there’s a good collection in the music room.
