The Experience

Gorgeous, grand and furnished with love but no preciousness for civilised family use, this is a perfect house for family gatherings. Big rooms inside, generous lawns for romping children, secluded corners for heat and shade, wooden loungers by the pool, table tennis for rainy days and a huge bedroom and bathroom in a ‘granny’ wing. All this in total peace on a hillock in the middle of gently rolling countryside. Inside are lots of lovely things, plenty of books for all ages, big bedrooms and fine modern bathrooms, all set about with level changes and inter-connections as befits an old house. The sitting room is the nicest kind of comfortable space, with two sofas and an armchair pulled up to the enormous and well-used fireplace, good oil paintings, including one doughty family portrait, and floods of light from wide windows. The kitchen is large and cluttered in the best family kitchen way, its cupboards stuffed with blue-and-white English china and as many pots and pans as you could wish for. The region is rich in bastide towns, vineyards and museums but Bosc de la Croze is probably too quiet for teenagers…

We loved Bosc de la Cruz, the house was beautiful and well equipped, extensive grounds with lots of outdoor furniture for eating and relaxing and a large swimming pool. It was so peaceful there and we even had pretty Hoopoe Birds in the garden. We would have been happy to stay another week.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Wendy Bailey

  • Bosc de la Croze is situated in beautiful rolling countryside with no other house in sight, but two wonderful villages less than 3 miles away.
  • Our nearest village, Montaigu de Quercy, has an excellent weekly Saturday market plus a fabulous baker; there's a good butcher as well and also in the other nearby village of Tournon d'Agenais.
  • There's bike hire in Montaigu de Quercy, and wonderful, safe paths and hardly-used roads leading from the house.
  • You can go off on beautiful walks straight from the house without driving anywhere.
  • Bosc de la Croze is perfect for babies and small children as the owners have grandchildren and there's lots of equipment, toys and books available for guests. There is a games room in a barn adjacent to the house.
  • Bosc de la Croze is lovely and relaxing place to spend your holiday - a house where you can be as lazy or active as you feel like: salt water swimming pool and big garden, lovely walks and cycle rides, tennis in the local village.
