The Experience

Gaze on green fields as you float in the infinity pool – or sprint the perimeter track and recover under the pergola. This 18th-century hilltop farm, on the edge of a tiny village, wraps itself around a great gravelled courtyard and there’s heaps of lovely space.

Bedrooms are split between a two-storey barn and a stone annexe ten yards away. The swishest, loftiest bedroom is in the annexe, but all the bedrooms are charming. You share a vast living room and a sociable kitchen, and terraces dotted with lanterns and sofas.

In the distance, across fields, is the exquisite village of Monflanquin; discover its restaurants, bars and weekly market. For kids, home is best. They can swim, roam, play tennis, play ping-pong, feed the owner’s hens and collect the eggs.

All the family have now arrived - parents enjoying a drink around the pool, the children have already been exploring everything - and rushing from the amazing pool to games of ping pong and tennis and such space to explore. Bedrooms decided on without demur (that doesn’t always happen). It is such a happy place - and so stunning. We are overwhelmed by your so generous & welcoming gift of wine and so many thoughtful provisions. Solange is a delight. And thank you for the suggestion of the festival in Monflanquin - we will certainly go. With very many thanks - we are feeling so relaxed already.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable two weeks at Lauzel - what a wonderful place!

Thanks a lot for this wonderful place, it was a little piece of heaven for all of us!! The gift basket was so nice, we enjoyed it until the end. The bed linen was very comfortable and smelled so good! All the outdoor areas, benches, spots and views were incredible. We enjoyed all the activities, ping pong, tennis, croquet, picking eggs every day, walking in Lauzel and watching the stars! Thanks for everything!! You deserve a 5 star review to publish online. The Belgian Group ❤️

Hello Jeremy and Mirri, Thank you so much for having us! We all loved the property and the amazing scenery. We all hope to come and visit again soon. xxx All the staff were fantastic! We didn't even know they were there until they said hello. Thank you for the basket of goodies, we all enjoyed these and very unexpected. Magnifique!! ❤️❤️❤️ We loved every minute we had at your magical piece of the country and hope we will return. Christina

Domaine de Lauzel is an idyllic gem; a collection of rustic-chic, beautifully converted, traditional buildings with plenty of modern luxuries. We stayed as three families and found it very spacious. Favourite things: the tennis courts, ping-pong tournaments, collecting eggs from the chickens, the stunning infinity pool, horse-riding in nearby Monflanquin and the real fire in the living room. It's like having your own hilltop village, with its own vineyard, lakes and plenty of quiet places (with strategically placed benches) to admire the views.

What a fantastic week we all had. We will most certainly recommend to friends and I’m sure we’d love to return again very soon. Particular highlights for us were: Pool area - stunning views and lovely seating areas. Shower room - absolutely brilliant for little children. No more exhausting evening bath times! Tennis - court in great condition and used for hours every day. Bedrooms - all very spacious and lovely bathrooms Welcome pack - thank you so much for this. Really delicious goodies and lovely wine. Hard to fault anything at all. It really was a super week

The neighbourhood

This 50-acre domaine lies on the edge of tiny Savignac-sur-Leyze, 6km from the bastide town of Monflanquin. The whole area is studded with medieval chateaux, prehistoric painted caves, music festivals (including jazz at Monpazier), food markets and wine tastings; Lauzel produces its own wine. Negotiate the tree tops of Parc en Ciel, clamber the castle ruins of Gavaudan.

Local points of interest from Jeremy Carter

  • The vineyard at Lauzel is the last working vineyard in Savignac, and we love keeping this little bit of village culture alive. We use organic growing methods and get the whole village togther for harvesting the grapes in the autumn.
  • The imposing 16th C Chateau de Biron is around 23km away, and is a beautifully restored hilltop fortress with breathtaking views of the Lot et Garonne area. Afterwards, wander through the pretty town of Biron with an ice cream from the cafe - bliss!
  • Calling all thrill-seekers! Parc en Ciel is a great place to take the kids for an action packed afternoon, with treetop adventure trails and outdoor swimming. WIth trails for all ages and abilities, children under 14 will need adult supervision. 23km away
  • The charming town of Villeréal is 18km away and is another of the pretty bastide towns of the area. Every 2nd Sunday of the month there is a brocante held in the main square - one of our favourite things to do and we've picked up many a treasure!
  • If you're a rambler at heart, there is a super hiking trail through the woods and fields around the base of Monflanquin. A round trip of 7km which takes around 2 hours to complete, with stunning views. Starting point is a 10 minute drive from the house.
  • To soak up a bit of history, head to the Musée des Bastides in Monflanquin, 10 mins by car. Great for kids and adults who have an interest in all things medieval, you'll learn about the foundation of the region's medieval villages. Well worth a visit.

The owner, who bought Lauzel in the 80s, loves wine and has a small vineyard. You may also see “our cleaner, our pool guy, and our handyman" who love a chat if you want to practice your French, but are "very discreet and don't hang around.”
