Enfolded in the rolling landscape of Lot-et-Garonne, Maison Palanchou lies at the end of a track with views of winding valleys, wooded hilltops and fields of sunflowers. The house is part of an ancient cluster of stone farm buildings with just an artisan cheese maker as neighbour. Designers Claire and Roger have put their stamp on the interior with a nice lightness of touch – stone walls, wooden beams, gleaming terracotta and oak floors form a perfect backdrop to chic modern furniture and brocante finds. It’s in striking contrast to the unbridled riot of the garden, ablaze with summer flowers and tiny gravel paths leading to hidden glades. There’s a sunny pool terrace reached through the sitting room or straight from one of the pale and interesting ground floor bedrooms. An open spiral staircase leads to a twin room in the heavily beamed eaves: a great retreat for kids. In the stylish kitchen, clean lines and efficiency hold sway, and it’s here you’ll find a basket with enough to create your first meal, including eggs from the hens living in a field behind the house and ice cream.

A very generous welcome basket greeted us upon arrival which was beautifully presented showcasing local produce to it's full. The house was just beautiful and had everything you could need. Peacefully located out of the village with stunning views over the valley. Thank you Claire and Roger for a most relaxing stay.

A beautiful old house sympathetically and carefully restored, set amongst fields and flowers. It is truly a perfect spot to unwind and leave behind the grind of daily life! The pool and deck area is a lovely, private space for eating out and sunbathing. The kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom are very well appointed and the beds and cot are very comfortable. The owners made us feel like no request was too much, and helped with recommendations on things to do locally. We also arrived to an incredibly generous hamper of local products, which was a very warm and welcoming start to our holiday!

Local points of interest from Claire Lewis

  • La Maison Palanchou is in the Lot et Garonne described as an unspoilt Dordogne. It's reached down a single track lane and surrounded by its own land - fields of orchids and woods to walk, explore and play in. The nightingales sing all night in early summer
  • Only a five minutes drive takes you to one of the many ancient pretty bastide towns in the area, Penne d'Agenais on the river Lot, where you will find markets, cafés, restaurants, several bakers, a supermarket, banks, chemists - everything you might need.
  • There are traditional markets everywhere, day and night in the summer. Beautiful medieval villages, vineyards, flea markets, chateaux, caves, canoes, bikes and boats to hire, a lake with a beach, a water park and adventure park all within an hours drive.
  • The private south facing deck has a stunning chlorine free, heated plunge pool, for exclusive use of guests. Plus gas barbecue, sun loungers with towels, a small topiary garden and table and chairs in the shade of a wisteria. A perfect outdoor dining space
  • We can provide cots, high chairs, baby bath & mat, sterlizer, armbands, toys and babysitting, if useful. If you need help, during your stay, please just send us a text. We live discreetly in an adjoining cottage with a totally separate garden and access
  • Bergerac airport is the nearest (60 mins) with flights from Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Exeter, Leeds, Liverpool and Edinburgh, Stanstead, Manchester and Southampton. We are also mid way between Toulouse and Bordeaux airports, 90 minutes from here.
