The Experience
You roll past fields full of buttery sunflowers to arrive at this one-storey stone cottage. Owners, Jill and Simon, have spent the last year gently reviving it and the result is charming. They’ve kept the exposed stonewalls, old beams and tiled floors while Simon made all the doors, window frames and kitchen units. The furniture is simple, the small bedrooms peaceful with views and lovely White Company linen, and the shower room is sleek. Outside it’s deliciously un-manicured (but not for long, your hosts are landscape gardeners) with a veg patch you may plunder, a pool and terrace for al fresco meals. Stock up on lovely local produce on market days in nearby Monflanquin or Villereal then cook up a storm in the neat open-plan kitchen while the rest of your party loll on the sofas or sip wine at the pine dining table. Jill, Simon and their two friendly Jack Russells live in the attractive farmhouse nearby and are on hand to help you plan your stay, and there’s absolutely tons to do: visit chateaux, vineyards, the Marqueyssac gardens and the Lascaux caves.

Le Perchoir is a lovely little gite - our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. The setting is wonderful, and very relaxing. Perfect for beautiful sunrises and sunsets - it really does feel like you're getting away from the world here. The gite perfectly captures the French rural tradition of the region, and strikes a great balance between a farmhouse feel and modern conveniences. The location is great for visiting local Bastide Towns. A 5 minute drive away is the the Lac de Lougratte, which is a great place to while away an afternoon in the sun. We can't wait to go back.

Look no further, highly recommended tranquility with pool. We felt at home from the very first moment, hosts extremely helpful with advice for places to shop, eat and visit. Fabulous countryside views. Clear instructions were given on every aspect of the rental. Great location, A+ in cleanliness, A+ in amenities too. The owners have restored the gite to top notch standard creating a comfortable, cosy, well appointed, spotless, holiday rental home for 4 people. Super comfortable beds and beautiful linen. We have no hesitation in staying there again and will most definitely return next year.

The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Simon & Jill Foxley
- There is a local, traditional market each day of the week in one or other of the beautiful local bastide towns near Le Perchoir. Just the place to stock up on locally made delicious cheeses, sausages, honey and bread.
- Chateaux Biron (20 mins) and Bonaguil (35 mins) provide history-filled, dramatic locations and architecture. Chateau Monbazillac (30 mins) is another worthwhile trip, and you get to taste their world famous wines too!
- The impressive gardens of Marqueyssac are an hours drive away. Near to them is beautiful Beynac, and also La Roque-Gageac with its’ extraordinary troglodyte fort set into the hillside. Lascaux World Heritage site is just over an hour from Le Perchoir.
- You are in France, so take advantage of the abundance of wines available and the seasonal, delicious produce on offer locally. Most importantly, relax and enjoy our tranquil and beautiful corner of the world.
- Picturesque countryside provides ample chances for a leisurely stroll or something longer and more challenging should you wish. The meadows in Spring are full of wildflowers and orchids.
- Seasonal vegetables should usually be available from our potager, along with fresh eggs from our free range hens. We also offer a ‘supper service’ if you want a night off from toiling in front of the stove. Prices upon request.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Perchoir, a beautifully renovated cottage in the Lot. The owners , Jill and Simon , have thought of everything to make a comfortable holiday home. A very comfortable bed, beautiful bed linen and towels, everything you could need in the kitchen and a lovely hot shower! We very much appreciated the wine in the frig and local biscuits and details such as the home made perfumed soap in the bathroom. There are so many beautiful Bastide towns to visit in this area but we were also very happy to relax on the sun beds and cool down in the swimming pool.
