The Experience

The medieval manor surveys fertile land rich in tales of knights and kings: a stunning hilltop setting. Horses graze, quails potter and guests gather by the pool in a ruined granary to barbecue trout from the river or duck from the market. The cool, thick-walled building wears its no-frills minimalism well: rough stone, hefty beams, a roll top bath, canvas wardrobes, ancient bullet holes… and ‘open’ bathrooms behind screens. There’s a great fire in the monastic sitting room where delightful Dutch-German host serves breakfasts of cheese and charcuterie. Rampage, like those medieval Templars, across glorious ‘French Tuscany’.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Lana Elise Siebelink

  • No plastic furniture! We have classic wooden and metal garden furniture. An exceptionally good sleep on vacation! We have the best fresh and pleasant Dutch quality ‘Auping’ beds and mattresses. Delightful awakenings! Bathe under our rain showers.
  • Monflaquin, Pujols, Penne d’Agenais, Beauville, Bourg-de-Visa, and Puymirol: lovely fortresses and medieval villages where history revives. In the valley of blood where the French and English fought for appropriation (1152), influences have remained.
  • A cyclists and walkers delight, explore ancient pilgrims trails across gentle rolling hills to sheer slopes between the sun-drenched sunflower fields and the fragrant plum orchards in the pristine river area of the Toscana of France.
  • Weekly markets provide delicious fresh foods. Local producers share with pride their products and can recommend recipes and cooking techniques. At the evening markets you can join long tables to enjoy cooked delicacies while enjoying live music.
  • Visit Chateau Duras, Buzet or Bonaguil to view or to taste wines. Rent a boat on the river Lot, listen to classical concerts in Romanesque acoustic churches from the 11th C, play golf at chic clubs or stroll around authentic brocantes and flea markets.
  • Whether you join construction workers and farmers or reserve a table with white linen in one of the Michelin start restaurants, the delicate food is always pure and honest. And so are the prices. At Beaujoly we have a list with all types of restaurants.
