The Experience

In season, Peyrenègre is a lovely place for families: bikes, swings, sandpit, games, hot tub and saltwater pool, heated April-October. Out of season, peacefulness prevails and it’s perfect for couples. There are three gites on this former cattle farm; corn and sunflower fields stretch in every direction and the nearest grocery store is in little St Barthélemy, 5km. Five years ago, Lucy and Andrew, who once worked with horses, bought their own 3.5 hectares in south west France, and enthusiastically introduced animals; visiting children will find there are chickens, ducks and guinea pigs to feed, horses and sheep to admire, and cats and dogs to cuddle. As for the gites – one in the old barn – each is comfortable and neat as a new pin, with a living space downstairs, a terrace outside, and steep stairs to bedrooms (one twin, one double) and bathroom above. Shutters and thick walls keep you cool in summer, wood-burning stoves keep you toasty in winter, and sofas turn into beds for extra littl’uns. Your young hosts ensure you have everything, from laundry to babysitters to pool-towels to umbrellas, and a box of their own seasonal produce.

Reviews

We had a fabulous long stay at this wonderful gite complex. Beautiful views, clean and comfortable. Well furnished. Our hosts, Lucy and Andrew, were very friendly and helpful. It was amazing to be surrounded by the farm animals. Beautiful pool, BBQ area. Great place that we hope to return to again soon.

We had a wonderful time here! It was fun and relaxing, since there is a lovely pool in a peaceful location and animals to feed and table tennis for the children. Our children met others and enjoyed playing with them. The hot tub early evening is relaxing too. Lots to do in the area! The English owners and hosts are so friendly, helpful and easy going. We highly recommend you try this experience!

What a wonderful place to make childhood memories and, for the ones who are not children, to kick back and enjoy life with a lovely backdrop of sunflower fields and rolling hills. We had an amazing 2 weeks with Lucy and Andrew and we are all very keen to go back! The welcome and hospitality was unique and we feel we have made friends in France. Our boys are still talking about the dogs and the chickens and Luis is planning to come back and help out on the farm. We love the gorgeous pool and hot tub , the surrounding villages and the numerous activities on our doorstep. All I can say is, go.

Andrew and Lucy are exceptionally welcoming hosts. We arrived late, tired and grumpy with each other but they stayed up to meet us. The gites and facilities were perfect for what we needed, peace, a beautiful setting, lovely pool and we had our dog with us, not an easy find nowadays. The gites are set in a working farm and feeding the chickens became a daily ritual. The chickens would often turn up at our door in hope of an early snack! Andrew and Lucy couldn’t be more helpful with advice on the best activities and villages to visit. Duras was amazing. A real find, couldn’t recommend more.

What a great find. We went as a family but had individual Gites!! This meant that everybody could do their own thing if they wanted to. Pets are welcome which was a must for us. Andrew and Lucy couldn’t have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they hosted a fabulous barbecue for us. My daughter absolutely loved the farm animals and had to be dragged away from the pool most nights. A great location if you like running or cycling or simply chilling. So many amazing places in this area especially the lively evening markets but not enough time to enjoy and definitely will be back.

We spent two visits at Peyrenegre. Wonderful accommodation, fantastic location. The gites were lovely set in idyllic countryside, Lucy and Andrew were great hosts and gave us lots of information on local restaurants, and points of interest to visit. Lovely gardens and a fantastic pool. Both our visits were fantastic and we're one of the best holiday locations we'd been to. Thoroughly recommend . Our visits were July 2020 and July 2021.

What a lovely stay we had at Peyrenegre. This was our 3rd time staying. The gites were clean and very well equipped. The views over the valley were fantastic. The pool was warm and our daughter had great fun with the pool inflatables. Andy and Lucy are fantastic hosts and always around if needed but give your privacy. Our daughter had great fun helping Lucy feed all the animals they have. The local village has a shop for essentials and the local town has a lovely supermarket. There are many places to visit if you take your car. I would highly recommend staying at Peyrenegre.

We spent two holidays here, July 2020 and July 2021. Wonderful gites in a fantastic location. Lucy and Andrew were lovely hosts, giving us lots of information on local restaurants and points of interest. Peyrenegre gites and fantastic, set in idyllic countryside but easily accessible to nearby villages and towns. Great gardens and the most wonderful pool, I would thoroughly recommend.

We would highly recommend staying here and would definitely like to go again. It is a very peaceful and relaxing holiday. The swimming pool is great and because there are only 3 gites there is always plenty of room in the pool. Lucy and Andrew who own the gites are extremely welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The area is idyllic.

We had such a lovely holiday here this summer and would recommend unreservedly, the setting is idyllic (the photos don’t do it justice) and Lucy and Andrew are just the perfect hosts and so genuinely welcoming. Our 4 and 2 year olds loved helping with the animals each day after their daily session in the pool. We’re booking for next summer now, which is a first for us, because we really did have the best week.

Emma, Bristol

Stayed for a week in the 'Les Noisetiers' that we found both well equipped and comfortable. Lydia loved the daily feeding of the animals on the genuine small holding with the Lucy & Andrew ( the friendly owners). We travelled by train. Route:- St. Pancras - Lille - Bordeaux - Marmande. Easy within the day. We left St Pancras at 6:57 am and after arrival at Marmande did a supermarket shop before arriving at the Gite in late afternoon. Best to hire car from Bordeux or Marmande. Certainly during School holiday substantially cheaper ( and comfortable) than flying to Bergerac or Bordeaux.

If you want to go to paradise simply go ahead and stay with Lucy and Andrew at Gites de Peyrenegre ! From the onset Lucy was so helpful and pleasant to deal with .The Gite was well equipped, homely and traditionally French. The beautiful scenery and landscape made us so relaxed, our days were spent In the heated salt water pool and nights spent in the hot tube watching the stars ! We truly had a fantastic holiday with Lucy and Andrew and we’ll definitely be back! I would 100% recommend staying at Gites de Peyrenegre with Lucy and Andrew , it will be a holiday you won’t forget !

Peyrenegre is a beautiful place. Stunning views, amazing flowers, vegetable garden and wildlife - the perfect place to get away from it all and spend relaxed time together as a family. We loved the pool and hot tub and Lucy and Andrew were warm and welcoming hosts. They couldn’t do enough for us and the kids loved feeding the animals. Lots to explore in the local area too, we loved swimming and kayaking on the river and our trip to a night market, not to mention the great local restaurants and bakers. We had to drag ourselves away.

Jessica, London

A truly relaxing family holiday. Lucy and Andrew welcomed us into their beautiful gites set in the midst of sunflower fields. Every thing we needed was supplied including a room full of games and toys for the children. The kids loved feeding the chickens and collecting the eggs. The heated pool was perfect - our eldest daughter conquered swimming this holiday! And the hot tub was an excellent bonus. The gites were very well equipped and the perfect base for exploring the chateaux and bastides towns nearby. We would highly recommend this for families looking to relax and recharge.

This really does provide a fabulous location for a family holiday. The views from the gites are beautiful overlooking rolling farmland filled with sun flowers, hazelnut and walnut trees. Lucy and Andrew are fabulous hosts, thoughtful and friendly but not intrusive. The heated saltwater pool was great and the children loved to help feed the animals. Lots of space to run about and play in with loads to do in the surrounding area from canoeing to visiting beautiful medieval towns and castles. Can't recommend this place highly enough, a very special find making for a really lovely family holiday.

Ruth, Edinburgh

If you want away from it all, peace & quiet this is the place for you. Brilliant for kids, there is everything you could wish for. The outside pictures don't do this place justice . Lucy & Andrew are always on hand to help & give advice but not obtrusive at all. We had the place to ourselves for a week which was great We don't have children but if you do there are dogs, cats, chickens, swings, climbing frames & fabulous pool!

Fiona, Cheltenham

This was our first visit to Peyrenegre and area. We had a very peaceful 2 week break here. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, and all the facilities (pool, hot tub etc) were extremely well maintained. Lucy and Andrew could not have been more helpful. We visited many bastide towns and villages in the local area. It seems like there is a mediaeval village to explore around every corner and a market too. During our two weeks the fields of sunflowers surrounding the gites started to bloom, and when we left it was a blaze of colour. Thank you Lucy and Andrew for a lovely stay.
