The Experience
Half a mile high lies the river-ploughed plateau: fresh air, wild country, vast space. Built 300 years ago, the family mansion has been brought up to date by clever, delightful Martine: Jacuzzi, hammam, yoga – and organic food and veg from her permaculture garden to keep you blooming.
Locally sourced produce, plates of foie gras, asparagus and more… are served on the covered patio that overlooks the pool and the view. Martine chats happily while cooking, pairing her dishes with an impressive choice of organic wines; she does great breakfasts, too.
Each of the six rooms has a fabulous bathroom, with Italian-style showers and roll top bath, and cosy beds to retire to after long walks over the granite plateaux of the Auvergne, canoeing on the river Lot or day tripping around medieval villages.

This was our second visit and it was as heavenly as the first. It’s the perfect place to relax and breathe in the countryside while enjoying Martine’s gorgeous cuisine. The surrounding area is very unspoilt and a joy to wander around. We hope to return to Concasty and would heartily recommend the place.

We stayed here on my husband's birthday and Martene put candles on his dessert. We had a super room and a delicious dinner. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made feel so welcome. Lovely breakfast beautifully presented. We hope to go back and stay longer.

Location
The neighbourhood
The drive here is long: winding upwards through a valley with plunging cascades, though the reward is the view. All around is space, the volcanic mountains of the Auvergne softened by the green of chestnut forests and churning rivers of the Lot and the Aveyron. Charming villages surround you: tiny Boisset (three km) has a bakery and a post office; further afield you’ll find Marcolés (16km) and Laroquebrou (27km, with excellent restaurants and lively summer festivals.
Local points of interest from Martine Causse
- Come to Concasty to recharge your batteries: practise the gentle art of doing nothing in our peaceful haven; we can organise sessions in yoga, body care and massage or diet and general health throughout the season.
- Come for the uniquely moving experience of “flying with the birds”. Christian Moullec takes you up in his ULM or a hot-air balloon while his trained birds fly alongside you. You may even take off from the Concasty hilltop. voleraveclesoiseaux.com
- The Maison de la Châtaigne at Mourjou has a chestnut museum and an orchard of ancient chestnut trees. Unusual and full of interest.
- This is walkers’ country par excellence and several marked hiking trails start here or pass the property. Just step out and become part of the stunning landscape of central Auvergne.
- A tour of the valley of the river Lot, the glorious little heritage town of Conques and Don du Fel, which has become a European hub for contemporary pottery under the inspiration of Suzy Atkins, makes a wonderful day trip from Concasty.
- Our peaceful retreat is easy to access from Aurillac airport (20 minutes) direct from Paris.

Introducing
Martine Causse
Generous to a fault, Martine welcomes you with open arms, to share her vegetable garden, pick raspberries in the parkland and discover her corner of the central Auvergne. Open and down to earth, her easy manner makes you feel instantly at home.
We stayed here for four nights after a two months confinement in Corrèze. Chambre d'hôtes were not reopened yet so Martine offered us a gite, with everything in the fridge for breakfast and she brought us a delicious meal every night. The gite was super comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble for Martine and she has plenty of information about the area. A fantastic place both for couples and families. We will be back.
