The Experience
The approach is mysterious and magical, the views to the Auvergne are spectacular, and your host likes nothing better than to share with you his enchanting home. Cherrywood glows with beeswax, copper pots shine, 18th-century floor boards creak and gorgeous old roses grow around the door. Albert is also a passionate cook, of local sausages and Cantal cheeses, homemade jams and tasty fruit purées. Listen to birds – and cow bells – from the garden, discover lovely Argentat on the Dordogne, settle in with cards by the wood-burner, retire to delicious beds dressed in hand-embroidered linen. Exquisite!

We really enjoyed our stay. We had a lovely evening meal with Albert and his daughter Armandine. The breakfast was excellent, and set out for us in the garden. We would recommend to family and friends. The area was wonderful and Albert gave us a route to make the best of our stay. The only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer. Mary and Tim

We had a great stay at La Fournio. We were in the cottage attached to the farmhouse which was charming and very comfortable. Monsieur Charles was extremely welcoming, entertaining us with aperitifs and feeding us a delicious meal on the night we arrived. The breakfast was lovely and kept us going until dinner time. Monsieur Charles practiced his English on us and I practiced my French on him. The day we left he very kindly took us to a nearby village to buy cheese to take to our friends in the Lot. We will definitely stay with Monsieur Charles when we visit the Auvergne again.

Local points of interest from Albert Marc Charles
- Organic breakfast and brunch served with a great view on the Mounts of Cantal : home-made jam, “Mariages Frères” teas, home made bakery, and local cheese...Our set menu also proposes regional specialities.
- You can celebrate the New Year here with use of the kitchen and lounge, and a caterer can come and cook for you! Our kitchen is available for guests to use themselves throughout the year too!
- We are pleased to share our great knowledge of our region "Xaintrie" and its surroundings.
- Hike on your own or with an instructor. There are lots of trails all around us in the Mounts of Cantal.
- Cycling: go cycling in the mountain and in the valley. You can also hire electric bikes nearby.
- Go and explore the Medieval town of Saleres, and the many castles nearby, such as the Chateaux D'Anjony, Auzeres, De la Vigne, or du Cambon, or the Tremolière with its 15th century tapestry. Finally, go and visit the ruins of the Fortress of Merle.

We stayed here for two nights on our way back from the south of France. We really enjoyed our stay. The house is beautifully appointed with wonderful attention to detail and a lovely balance of 'the old and the new'. Our room was warm and comfortable and Monsieur Charles was a wonderful host, kind, helpful and thoughtful. Breakfast was perfect, with home made yogurt, apple compote and preserves along with local cheese ham and breads. It was charming place to stay in every respect.Thankyou ! We also loved the area, experiencing snowfall on our only full day there and definitely plan to return.
