The
Experience

Friendly Pascale and Serge go the extra mile – an extra 10 miles, to be precise: the distance they’re happy to travel to deliver a picnic! A stay with them is full of little touches, such as Pascale’s jam and cakes and lifts into Saugues with its natural outdoor pool. Wonderfully remote, their granite farmhouse sits at the end of a lane in a small hamlet between the mountains and the Gorges of the Haut-Allier. Expect stone walls and handsome wood in the bedrooms, sleek bathrooms, and convivial meals around a large table in the former barn. Walk, cycle, ride and visit beautiful Le Puy en Velay less than an hour away.

Reviews

This is an outstanding B & B set in the heart of the most picturesque countryside. Pascale and Serge are exceptional hosts and have created a beautiful home with outstanding guest bedrooms. Their breakfasts are delicious and dinner is a 5 star gourmet feast! They are very knowledgeable and helpful about the area, with suggestions for walks, drives and visits in the surrounding countryside. There is even a spa to relax in after a long day walking. A perfect stay. We can't recommend this B and B highly enough. We will definitely return.

An absolutely fabulous two night stay in a beautiful property with outstanding hosts. Pascale and Serge made us feel so welcome in their home and we enjoyed a delicious meal with them on the second evening with delightful conversation in a mixture of our poor French and their much better English! We will definitely return in future years.

Unfortunately we could only stay one night in this wonderful B & B in the middle of beautiful countryside. Our very large room was perfect - definitely one could have spent a whole week there without feeling cramped. Dinner was truly exceptional and could compete with any 5 star experience: taste, presentation, variety... Pascale and Serge are easy going but very professional and knowledgeable about the history of the area, walks, etc... We also very much enjoyed meeting the large but incredibly cute and friendly pig next door known as "Copain". Would definitely recommend Les Pierres d'Antan.

As previously written by Robert, we totally agree with everything he said regarding the comfortable home, the high standard of the food, and the helpfulness and warmth of Pascale and Serge. We would just like add that the home sits in a most beautiful valley, readily accessible for great walks, but it is also poisitioned for exploring the Cantal. Thank you for making our stay so relaxing and enjoyable.

Margaret, Marnhull

This without doubt has been our best Sawday experience. Pascal and Serge are extraordinary hosts. Very friendly and both with a background in the food industry. They know how to entertain and produce the most sublime food. 4 courses and all a work of art. Not to mention the highest of standards in the bedroom. With fluffy white towels. I can't recommend this B&B highly enough. Thank you so much. Jane.

This is an exceptionally good BandB or Chambres d'hote. Paschal and Serge are superb hosts and amazing chefs. Their house has been beautifully designed and decorated and the bedroom very well and comfortably furnished. We had dinner with our hosts and other guests and spent a very convivial and amusing evening. But the dinner was a gastronomic delight - quite exceptional in fact. We felt as if we're dining in a 6 star restaurant. We cannot recommend this place more highly. It has been an experience staying here.

Local points of interest from Pascale Pays

  • The beautiful town of Saugues is located 7km away, where you will find the famous Tour des Anglais, the fantastic museum of the Gévaudan beast and the lovely chapelle des Pénitents.
  • 15 km away, you have the picturesque Haut-Allier valley. We highly recommend to stop by Notre Dame d’Estours, St-Julien-des-Chazes chapel and Château du Marquis de Lafayette.
  • East, less than an hour away, Le Puy-en-Valey, which is a UNESCO world heritage town, as well as Saint-Michel d’Auguihle church. There are impressive evening 'illuminations' (light shows) from May through to September.

  • We can organise themed outings with a bilingual guide: water sports, hiking, bird watching or 4x4 tours.
  • Many walking/hiking trips can be organized (or cycling) with various difficulties and landscape (Margeride, Rivières Propices)
