At the northern tip of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park are these two guest suites, perfect for a total escape – it’s around 7 miles to shops and restaurants (and 15 miles out of season). Artistic and chatty Marie Claire and her husband Cyr have painstakingly renovated their old farm buildings: exposed stone walls, ceilings open to the rafters and hand-picked furniture set the tone, complemented by modern bathrooms. Breakfast of fresh fruit, jams and bread sets you up for walking, swimming or visiting châteaux. Return to a jacuzzi bath and a vegetarian dinner, or rustle up supper in the communal kitchen.
