Toul Bleïz

Laniscat, Côtes-d’Armor
Bed & Breakfast

Quiet good taste prevails at this bucolic spot. Bliss to return to after going out painting with Julie, and a beautiful veggie meal for 2

Rooms sleep 2

There may be badgers and wild boar on the moors but civilisation is a five-minute drive – and you breakfast when you want to in a courtyard trilled by birds. Julie offers ‘painting with picnics’ and Jez concocts delicious vegetarian dishes for your supper (take these ‘en famille’ or in private by the summerhouse). This is an enchanting Breton cottage with French windows pouring light into a snug ground-floor guest bedroom with a patchwork quilt and lace pillows, armchairs, barbecue and summerhouse kitchenette, and an outdoor deck with lavender and sweeping views – what better place for an aperitif! The village is delightful, the Abbey de Bon Repos is near. Flexible, and great value.

Creative and artistic, spacious, caring and attentive, still, warm-hearted and friendly... These are Jez and Julies' beautiful qualities that make this place so very lovely.

Eva, Vienna

We stayed for several days in this lovely place, so quiet with the separate garden summerhouse where we had our breakfasts and evening meals. Great service and lovely food. Jez and Julie were so helpful and hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely stay here again. The area around is well worth visiting.

Andrew, Padstow cornwall

Julie and Jez turned out to be the perfect hosts. We simply loved staying with them in their beautiful home. While our guidebook had only recommended the region's coasts, the picturesque Toul Bleiz right in the heart of Brittany turned out to be the highlight of our vacation. The combination of a beautiful, cosy room and an extra summerhouse with BBQ and fireplace was extraordinary and helped us to relax or plan trips. The warm welcome of our hosts and their friendliness made us feel at home. We couldn't have wished for more & thank them (and their temporarily extended family) for a great time

Uta, Hamburg

We had a wonderful week stay at Toul Bleiz - Julie was a wonderful host, very helpful and responsive to emails before we arrived as well as being warm and welcoming during our stay; we got the best of both worlds of B&B & self catering with great breakfast every day but also use of the charmingly decorated private summerhouse where on hot evenings we could sit out on the terrace and have some light snacks overlooking a wonderful view. Great, stylish and clean base for getting to North & South Coasts.

Jenny, Bristol

This is an absolute gem of a place - friendly hosts, cottage to die for and nice bedroom. Meals are served in a dinky summerhouse which has a wood burning stove, patio, and lovely furnishings. We stayed one night but it was clear from the visitors books that others stayed longer - all enjoyed it. For cyclists it is not too far from the Roscoff to Nantes long distance route although you will have to negotiate a hill to get there - still, you get to go down next morning!

Steve, Leeds

We couldn't recommend Toul Bleiz enough (and have done since we got home). We stayed for 4 nights and easily could have stayed for longer. Beautiful house and surroundings, great location for relaxation - we loved the walks and the lake. Delicious food from Jez and Julie. It felt very special.

Holly, London

This was our second visit in as many months because Julie and Jez are so welcoming, Jez's food so appetising and the whole setting delightful. The summer house in the garden where meals are served and one can sit and relax is a real added bonus. We would thoroughly recommend out Blez.

Would recommend staying at Toul Bleiz 100%. It is so relaxing, superb accommodation with lots of character. The addition of the wonderful summer house is a real bonus. Breakfasts are wonderful and laid out ready for you to enjoy either in the summer house or outside on the decking overlooking the wonderful french countryside. Hosts Julie & Jez not only are so welcoming, they can't do enough for you.

Our stay at Toul Bleiz ticked ALL the boxes for a relaxing week and enjoyable stay. Julia & Jez were friendly and helpful hosts.Breakfast was excellent and information on the local area was readily given.Spotlessly clean rooms with fresh towels every day . The use of the summerhouse and patio was a delight where we could relax with a good book and a glass of wine. Our hosts were attentive without being overbearing To sum up - we would thoroughly recommend this B&B with no hesitation. A super holiday which we would happily repeat.

A real 'haven'. Beautiful Bretton farmhouse over looking fields and countryside. B & B very comfortable and full of character, we were made really welcome with nothing too much trouble. Now with the addition of the summer house, we really felt at home. A fantastic place to stay and unwind. Hosts Jez & Julie made us very welcome and were very helpful. We are returning guests to Toul Bleize and have also stayed in Kerpoence. Wonderful cottage if you want to self-cater.

Of all the B&Bs and hotels we've stayed in together over the past thirty years, nothing quite compares to Julie and Jez's unique creation at Toul Bleiz. It has everything you'd want and expect from an overnight stay, and more. Perfect tranquility. Friendly, warmly obliging hosts. Attention to detail. The added extra of the charming summerhouse and garden. Where better to enjoy an evening meal and breakfast? We slept so soundly after a delicious vegetarian supper expertly prepared by Jez that getting up and catching our ferry home almost got shelved to another day (or year)!!

A very pleasant few days spent with Jez and Julie. They offer a service over and above what you would expect from a B&B, and it felt no less French. Peaceful, relaxing nice area, no need to drive miles every day. I am not a vegetarian myself, but the food was so nice and interesting, you wouldn’t notice the difference. It was so nice to come home to a HOT! wood burner and dinner served after a relaxing drink. My only regret is that I was unable to stay longer and make friends with their cats!

This is a little gem, with the added benefit of a stone-built summerhouse & outside patio for relaxing after exploring the area. Julie and Jez are friendly & cheerful, and as they only have the one double B&B room, they have time to chat, if you want. The room is comfortable with armchairs & the small en-suite shower-room meets the needs, although the larger you are, the smaller it may seem! The 2 course restaurant-standard vegetarian suppers served with wine in the summerhouse are excellent; we didn’t miss meat or fish. The paths I used were easy to follow with far-reaching views. Très bon!

House a gem, setting glorious; walks, peace and beauty aplenty. Fantastic veggie food, a feast for both eyes and stomach. Hosts warm, welcoming, generous- spirited, fun to be with. Bedroom has private access and separate summerhouse with washing machine, woodburner, microwave, etc and cosy venue for candlelit meals, provides far more privacy and independence than most B&Bs. Three different patio areas for sitting/eating. Jez & Julies's practical skills and artistic leanings create a beautiful, relaxing environment. We've joined the army of fans who come back to Toul Bleiz again and again. Wow! What a find!!!

Local points of interest from Julie & Jez Rooke

  • This is a ramblers paradise, just step out the door and you are just a few minutes from moorland and wonderful scenery. Rugged rocks, heather, babbling brooks and spectacular views. You can even walk to Bon Repos Abbey and its weekly Sunday market...bliss.
  • We are lucky that Toul Bleiz is just a twenty minute cycle ride from the Nantes-Brest canal and also the old railway line which means you can easily cycle to Lake Guerledan. If you are brave the 'VOIES VERTES' cycle route can take you all the way to Spain!
  • Lake Guerledan is just a ten minute car drive from Toul Bleiz. The lake has beaches with swimming, watersports and restaurants. It's a lovely spot surrounded by forests and woodland walks. There are also picnic tables for enjoying a leisurely lunch.
  • The nearest small town to Toul Bleiz is Gouarec. It is only a couple of miles away and has a pretty centre with a beautifully restored market hall. There are restaurants, bakers, a small supermarket and lovely new swimming pool.
  • Toul Bleiz is a star gazers dream. There is no light pollution here, which is a rare thing! Marvel at the shooting stars, the Milky Way and the International Space Station passing by. Step out of the summer house onto the terrace and watch the stars unfold
  • LAST BUT NOT LEAST-Toul Bleiz is a haven 'JUST FOR TWO'. With only one B&B room, we have the time to ensure this is the perfect relaxing retreat from a stressful world. You can prepare light meals in the stone summer house or we can cook your supper-bliss!
