Marine purity on the north Brittany coast: it’s like a slightly snobby yacht club where you are an old member. The minimalist magician has cast natural spells of cotton, cane, wood, wool, seagrass: nothing synthetic or pompous. Sober lines, little ornamentation and restful colours leave space for the scenery, the sky pours in through walls of glass, the peaceful garden flows into rocks, beach and sea. Moss-green panelling lines the deep-chaired bar where a fire leaps in winter. Smallish, pale grey-panelled bedrooms have dark mushroom carpets and thick cotton stripes and checks, a four-poster here, a balcony there, nearly all have the ever-changing sea view. Bathrooms are due for refurbishment but bathrobes give you that four-star look on your way to the indoor seawater pool and treatment spa. Staff are smiling and easy, the ivory-panelled dining room with its sand-coloured tablecloths is deeply tempting. Spectacular coastal paths, a choice of beaches, yoga and spa retreats, even a writer’s workshop – the luxury of space, pure elegant simplicity and personal attention are yours.
