Walk from the house through wildflower meadows, woodland and streams for miles on end or hit the coastal footpath and be on a sandy beach in 15 minutes. There are nine beaches on the north Finistère coast with something to suit everyone from rockpools to big waves – hire all the gear from the Locquirec surf school.
The house and barn are easy-going spaces. Bring a haul of fresh seafood home, fire up the barbecue and gather your clan on the terrace while the kids free-range in the big safe garden – the pirate ship, Wendy house and trampoline should keep them entertained. On cooler evenings cosy up inside with books and board games in front of the fire.
There are local markets for each day of the week, a great botanical garden at Roscoff and Ile de Batz is lovely. Take the ferry from Paimpol (an hour’s drive) to car-free Île-de-Bréhat to gulp down fresh sea air and ogle the pretty gardens; Asterix fans will be keen to visit Pleumeur-Bodou (25 kilometers) a reconstructed Gallic village. Groups of walkers, cyclists or artists will be equally happy here.
