The Experience

The rewards for winding down to, then up from, the river are richly simple: tranquillity laced with bird-song and great views from the deck and the main bedroom. Get up early to the mist rising from the river and contemplate a spot of gentle kayaking from the beach below; sit out for sunsets and the sound of settling wildlife.

Jean-Yves’ welcome basket gives you a taste of the excellent local food: head for Crozon for the best organic food market in the area, and for its excellent boulangerie/patisserie. Meals at the 2* Michelin Auberge des Glazicks at Plomodiern are a treat, or keep it informal and walk a few miles across Terenez for seafood.

And do take time to explore the Crozon peninsula…over the 515m span of the Térénez bridge are pretty villages, hidden creeks and sea caves, and wide, often deserted beaches – great for surfing and for strolling. You’re half an hour from Finistère’s port city of Brest, its station and airport.

Reviews

Ty Anna is an unforgettable spot, a secluded chalet low down by the river, surrounded by woodland and water. Coming here feels like having the chance to stay in a friend's hideaway, it feels lived-in and comfortable, with an energy that's wonderfully inspiring for writers, artists and meditative practices such as yoga. Spend your days immersed in nature and tranquility.

Annaliza, Sawday's Inspector

A perfect hideaway to refresh one's soul and escape from the frenetic pace of modern life. I came away inspired by the simplicity of the chalet and the beauty of the surroundings..

Location

The neighbourhood

In the Parc Regional d'Armorique, the chalet is a steep drive up from the river and surrounded by seven acres of rocky outcrop and woodland, and the owner's nearby house is hidden by trees. Walk a mile up river to the 5th-century Landevennec monastery and it's 4km to Rosnoen's shops and informal restaurants like Les Viviers de Terenez. Crozon, 25-minutes' drive, has a good Saturday market

Local points of interest from Jean-Yves Le Texier

  • The Crozon peninsula and the Audierne bay have a lot to offer in terms of coastline, from stiff cliffs and hidden creeks to huge surfing sand beaches...
  • A mile up the river is the ancient monastery of Landevennec, founded in the 5th century, nested in a protected and magnificent forest... which ends up in front of Ty-Anna.
  • Lucky early-risers might see a deer on the grass in front of the chalet... or squirrels up the pine-trees.
  • Later on, the early mist on the river when the day will be hot...
  • The refurbished dojo or practice room up the park, for meditation, yoga and aiki classes.
  • L'auberge des Glazicks, a two-star Michelin restaurant, in Plomodiern !

Introducing

Jean-Yves Le Texier

When Jean-Yves discovered Ty Anna he fell in love with the peace and beauty of the area, then learned that his grandmother had lived just a short distance away, on the same estuary; the kind of coincidence that sits well with his Zen philosophy. Friendly and serene, he lives at a discreet distance in the former fisherman's hut, is happy to be called on for recommendations and speaks excellent English.
