The
Experience

This traditional 18th-century Breton farmhouse has stacks of character and sits in rolling countryside, just minutes from fine beaches. Friendly, enthusiastic hosts decamped from London and give you snug bedrooms under the eaves and an open living space downstairs with lofty beams, huge fireplace, comfy sofas and a baby grand. Borrow bikes (excellent cycle routes) and kayaks and make for the glorious coastline; forage for oysters, take a ferry to tiny offshore islands. Nearby La Roche-Bernard has chic boutiques and eateries; local couple, Nicolas and Bridgette, can organise dance, drama and wellbeing activities. There’s a relaxing garden tended to by live-in horticulturalist, Aude, a small above ground pool – and dinner for groups can be arranged too.

Reviews

Lovely property, beautiful gardens, comfortable, spacious accommodation and very nice breakfast including fresh fruit from the garden . A short drive away from the pretty town of La Roche Bernard and its restaurants. Our host, Steve, went beyond the call of duty when we unfortunately had a problem with our car. Nothing was too much trouble and he made us feel totally welcome and at ease with his warm, friendly, upbeat nature. We will certainly return if in the area again and will recommend to friends and family.

Vicky, Bristol

Lovely old farmhouse, recently decorated and very comfortable. Extensive garden. Large continental breakfast with fresh, quality ingredients. Totally relaxed atmosphere.

Russell, Carshalton

A very friendly & warm welcome from Steve & Lisa. Steve goes out of his way to assist in any way he can. I highly recommend La Chaumine.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Steve & Lisa Gosling

  • Ideally located to explore the pleasures of southern Brittany with its stunning coastline, breathtaking beautiful countryside and the fine array of historic towns and villages.
  • The beautiful harbour village of La Roche-Bernard, with its enviable selection of restaurants and boutique shop, sits within a short drive or cycle ride.
  • The historic town of Vannes is located just 30 minute drive to the west of La Chaumine. Nantes is located 45 minutes drive to the east where regular flights are available to UK and the rest of Europe. Flight time to London approximately 50 minutes.
  • La Chaumine has bags of character and plenty of space for you to enjoy. Arrive as a stranger and leave as a friend! Ideal for those that love the great outdoors too - a bird watchers paradise!
  • Qualified teacher Nicholas holds dance lessons locally, and health & well-being advocate Bridgette holds drama sessions nearby. Just ask for recommendations too; they are always happy to help with organising local activities.
  • Take advantage of Aude's passion and understanding of horticulture - you'll see her pottering around growing herbs and produce for local restaurants. She's a real fountain of knowledge!
