The Experience

The building juts forth like the prow of a cruise liner – lots of glass, lots of light. The sea glitters on three sides, the only sounds are the birds and the gentle whisper of boats sliding past. The house and garden are carved in two – space for you, space for your hosts. Four of the five bedrooms have sea views, all a private terrace, big sliding doors. Outside there’s a plush lawn and heated pool.

When the mist descends, sit in the library with a book or play piano, descend to the little spa area for a sauna or dip in the hot tub, take a gastronomic tour of the oyster shacks and Michelin-starred restaurants (nine within 19 miles) for net-fresh seafood.

Borrow bikes and kayaks, head off on island adventures. Play golf at Baden, watch colourful boats from your window with binoculars, hop aboard the Navette des Îsles or take a daytrip to medieval Vannes. Breakfast is fresh, local, served in the dining room or on the terrace. You can stay in for delicious dinners on Mondays.

I just want to say what a wonderful stay we had. From the moment we entered the villa we knew we were going to enjoy ourselves. The views, setting, rooms and service were amazing. The care and attention the owners took to ensuring we had a relaxed stay was fantastic. The dinner was delicious so too was the breakfast with crepes and jams. Arnaud and his wife could not have been more helpful in giving advice on trips and local knowledge. I would definitely return.

I am an absolute fan of the Gulfe du Morbihan and I can promise you that you will live an unforgettable experience of it if you stay at “La Villa du Guern”. It is an ideal place for a long holiday or a short break with your beloved or your friends.

The neighbourhood

The Gulf of Morbihan’s pure waters gleam with a mirror-like shine, punctuated at low tide by oyster beds. It’s the last stop on the wild, Celtic side of Brittany: megaliths rise mysteriously from the sea mists like shards of flint. The villa is set at the end of the Pointe du Guern, in a 7000 square-metre park overlooking the bay with direct access to the beach and coastal trail below the house. There are houses either side, but there are sea vistas anywhere you look. The village of Baden is about 3km away, with three restaurants, two good creperies, a little Friday night market. There’s a train station 20km away in Vannes.

Local points of interest from Arnaud & Martine Genis

  • The view from our property is spectacular : 250 degrees view since we seat on a tip overlooking the Gulf of Morbihan. The coolest place is the pool that hangs over the Gulf and gives the impression to swim in the Gulf.
  • We have lived and travelled in many countries. We love spoiling our guests and sharing our passion for this beautiful region. We can help you plan your activities : restaurants, hikes, cultural visits, shopping, …. There is a lot to do around our place.
  • Megaliths, Michelin starred restaurants, cruises to the 30+ Islands of the Gulf of Morbihan, middle age cities and castles, local markets, music festivals, sailing, hiking along the coast,… are some of the attractions of our region.

Arnaud & Martine Genis

The Genis’ spent 20 years living in Japan, USA, Spain, Italy and Belgium before returning to their beloved Brittany to settle in Baden. A passion for hosting friends, architecture and décor led them to open La Villa du Guern – the result of a four-year project, they took all the best bits of their homes over the years and built their dream house. Service is of the don’t-lift-a-finger variety.
