Head off for a peaceful pedal on the towpath of the Nantes Brest Canal; unwind in front of the wood-burning stove, or in the sunny gardens

Read guest comments

On the site of a 14th-century hamlet, this handsome Breton property has two very well-renovated houses to let. They work well together for a group and share three acres of garden and woodland on the Nantes-Brest canal. Head off on the bikes for a peaceful pedal along the towpath (spot an otter!) – to lunch, perhaps Michelin-starred, in Mur-de-Bretagne (5km). You'll get a friendly welcome from Kevin and Louise, who have set out to preserve original features (arched stone fireplaces, ceiling beams) while adding practical and well-equipped kitchens, efficient wood-burners and shower rooms. Go for a dip in the new heated pool. The style is unpretentious, the comfortable furniture is mostly modern. The grandest room – the master bedroom in 'Longère' – has a lovely big south-facing window, a huge oak bed, a big en suite shower. The bedrooms in 'Cottage' are spacious, cosy and carpeted. It's great to have a separate laundry room, a choice of bedding and a generous arrival hamper. You're an hour from the Gulf of Morbihan for sailing and stunning coastlines.

"Second time back and still just as beautiful! Gorgeous weather, lazy days at the lake paddle bording and best pizza picnic! Walks and bike rides along the canal, star gazing on the lawn at night and after a lovely day what better than to drop into the most luxurious and comfortable beds. The warmest welcome awaits you at Le Clezio..... if you want peacefulness, warm sunny days, a refreshing swim in the pool, good food, tasty wine (and cheap), quaint French markets, luxurious furnishings and attentive hosts then this is the place for you! Back again next year!"

"Spent a wonderful week staying at Le Clezio with our two children (6 & 3 yrs) Stayed at Le Longere which was lovely and beautifully furnished. The comfy super king master bed is divine! Kevin & Louise are such welcoming hosts and nothing is too much trouble! They kindly provide bikes which you can use along the scenic canal path at the bottom of their garden. House is perfectly located to Le Lac Guerdelain (10 mins drive) which has sandy beaches & pedaloes for hire which our children loved. Enjoyed day trips to Carnac, Auray and Vannes too. Highly recommend and hope to return again soon!"

"Spent two wonderful weeks in the cottage with our old dog, who, like us, loved the very large & amazing garden & the nearby canal towpath for walks. We relaxed on the lovely patio (great garden furniture and parasols), swam in the pool and enjoyed the great BBQ. Le Clezio is a great location to explore Brittany as it's situated more or less in the centre and so both north and south coasts are pretty easily reached. Louise and Kevin were very attentive and made sure that everything was tip top for our stay! We'd love to visit again!"

"We had an absolutely fabulous week with you this month, aided in no small part by the glorious weather. Your property is absolutely stunning and a perfect setting for a relaxing family week holiday. The property had everything that we needed, including the egg cups (!) and was like home from home. It was wonderful not to come back with a car full of dirty laundry too, thanks for the use of the machines. Oliver is still talking about the pool, the water pistols, and of course the bikes. We all enjoyed pottering along the river on the bikes with the boys on the back, a great touch. "

"We spent two wonderful weeks at Le Clezio with our two girls (2 and 5 yrs). The location and facilities are perfect for children with access to a lake with a sandy beach, watersports and restaurants only 10 minutes away and a canal towpath at the bottom of the garden (we recommend bringing bicycles), not to mention the heated swimming pool. The Longere was very comfortable and characterful - we wish we could have taken the bed home. Kevin and Louise are warm and friendly hosts. We booked to return in 2017 within a week!"

"Two weeks at Le Clezio.... Not long enough! From the minute we arrived we were made so welcome by Kevin, Louise and beautiful Brie. We stayed in the cottage which has everything you need... The most comfortable furnishings and luxurious bedding along with the peaceful surroundings. We loved taking the bikes straight onto the cycle path next to the canal then popping back for a refreshing swim in the beautiful pool. Sunny days at the lake with a picnic and water sports for all ages. A perfect holiday with perfect hosts! We were so well looked after, can't wait to go back!"

"This is a fantastic place for a relaxing holiday. We stayed at the Longere and couldn't have been more comfortable. The standard of the accommodation is excellent, three rooms, all in effect with en-suite bathrooms (very useful when you have daughters who take ages to get ready every day). The pool was a welcome retreat in the hotter afternoons and there are plenty of bike to borrow to cycle on the canal tow path or quiet roads. The owners are on site, always happy to help but never being obtrusive. A great location."

"We had a wonderful week at le clezio, Louise and Kevin looked after us very well and had thought of everything that we might need. We had our baby with us and they supplied a cot, a baby bath and even turned up the temperature on the pool to make his first swim as relaxed as possible. It is a charming place and beautifully maintained, we would love to return."

"Our third year at Le Clezio and it was still as beautiful as ever. We cycled along the canal to Pontivy Monday market and had nice lunches at Mur de Bretagne and Caurel. We were also privileged to be there when the Lac de Guerledan had been drained so we're able to walk along the bottom of the (dry) lake. The cottage was once again very comfortable and extremely well eqipped, everything you could possibly need was there. Kevin and Louise couldn't be nicer. We love Le Clezio and despite the fact that we have been there so often there are still places we want to go to. "

"We have just taken three generations of our family to the two gites at Le Clezio and everyone from the 2year old to the 70 year old had a superb time. The properties are very well equipped and maintained as are the grounds and pool. Louise & Kevin could not have been more friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. Comfortable beds and indoor & outdoor seating, loads of bikes of all sizes and plenty to do on site and in locality. We all agreed that we would love to return. "

"Le Clezio is the most beautiful, relaxing and delightful place to stay. The setting of the cottage is perfect, our children (5 & 3) could not have had more fun playing on the lawns, swimming in the perfectly warm pool, running along the canal. From borrowing bikes and helmets upon our arrival to taking advice on local restaurants we could not thank Kevin & Louise enough for their hospitality. The area is stunning, so many beautiful places to visit, Vannes, Jossolin and everything you need in the local towns and villages. The Cottage was spotless - everything we could need and more! Thank you!"

"A real get away from it all. House wonderfully equipped - nicely furnished, soft fluffy towels and the most comfortable beds. Lovely pool, super clean, and large, private garden. Smart outdoor furniture with big, fat cushions dotted throughout. Bikes of all sizes provided and you can cycle from the back garden for miles along the canal. Louise and Kevin could not be nicer, more welcoming or accommodating. Lovely holiday, thank you."

"Just back from a week at Le Clezio with the most welcoming and friendly owners you could ask for. The Cottage was a lovely place to stay, the grounds are wonderful, the pool lovely and very warm - especially good news for our little baby! We had the most relaxing time and feel very rested. I would recommend it as a special place to stay - does exactly what it says on the tin!"

"My husband and I are from New Zealand and have been to France before but have always wanted to experience the French countryside, food and culture. Our visit to Le Clezio exceeded all our expectations. Louise and Kevin made us feel so welcome and our surroundings were absolutely first class. We had the most memorable week relaxing by the pool, cycling the canal which runs adjacent to the property, walks to the village and generally taking in the beauty of the region. We sampled food at the many village markets and yet were only 10 minutes from Pontivey's stylish cafes. One word...brilliant!"
June 2015
"Another fantastic week. Pool area is beautiful every where very well kept. Still haven't managed to visit all the places to go so will have to return again next year !!!"
May 2015
"This was our second stay at Le Clezio in the Cottage. We stayed for 2 weeks and the sun shone the whole time. We went in the lovely new pool every day and cycled all over the place, along the river, to Pontivy and to the Lac. It's a home from home and Kevin and Louise are so easy to get on with. This is the first time we have ever gone back to a Gite twice and we are already planning next year's trip. Highly recommended. "

"A fabulous find in idyllic countryside. We had a fantastic family stay at Le Clezio with our 8-month old and 3 year old. We found plenty to do in the surrounding area and the boys were always keen to get back to the beautiful gardens and paddling pool which was set up for us when we arrived. Louise and Kevin are perfect hosts, friendly and extremely helpful when required but also unobtrusive. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable enough for us to relax in properly when the children were asleep after an exciting day. The pool is an excellent bonus too. We would love to return."
July 2014
"The perfect hosts! We stayed in the longere as a family of four for 2 weeks. We were warmly welcomed from the start. The booking process was smooth, as well as all further communication. Louise was very helpful with my many questions . We were looked after extremely well and although after two weeks away from home, you usually are keen to return, this was not the case. We felt so relaxed and contented . Lots to do for all ages in the near and further surrounding areas, so something for everyone. The property was beautiful, clean and extremely well equipped. Can't thank you enough. "
July 2014
"Really enjoyed our stay in The Cottage, lovely quiet surroundings and Louise and Kevin went out of their way to make us feel welcome and help us out when we arrived late, having been held up on our way. The Cottage had everything we needed and its location meant it is ideal for visiting a large area of Brittany."
July 2014
"We had a fantastic stay at Le Clezio. Our room was beautifully renovated and had the most comfortable bed of our trip. Louise and Kevin were amazing, they recommended restaurants and places to visit which was fantastic. We only wish we had booked for longer as we didn't want to leave (we only had 2 nights)."
June 2014
"Fantastic week beautiful place welcoming hosts and loads to do in the surrounding area. Ideal base for an action holiday and to relax and enjoy at the end of the day. Look forward to going back."
June 2014
"Had a brilliant time at Le Clezio. The cottage is beautiful, well furnished and comfortable. it has everything you could possibly need, a real home from home. The grounds are extensive with easy access to the canal for cycle rides or walking, bikes are available for use by guests which is a bonus when travelling by motorbike. There are no restaurants within walking distance but lots within a short drive, same with supermarkets. Kevin and Louise have done a superb job renovating this old farm, they appear to have thought of everything. They are very helpful and friendly hosts."
June 2014
"Excellent hosts. Excellent accommodation. Strongly recommended as a base for a Breton holiday."

"We have just returned from what I can only describe as a "Truly memorable and great holiday at Le Clezio". As a family we enjoyed the garden so very much, morning strolls in Wellies and Shorts, to Relay races with Brie (the dog) and the children! Not to mention playing tag, the Paddling Pool, Hose Play, wow that water from the source was ccccold! We did enjoy wildlife walks by the canal, playing pooh sticks and riding ALL the bikes! A Special Thanks to Louise and Kevin for welcoming us with open arms, croissants and a cold drink when we were exhausted!! See you again in 2015 - "A bientot!" xxx"

"Fantastic stay at Le Clezio Louise and Kevin are so helpful and welcoming; it was great to have all their local knowledge on tap. We stayed in the Longere which is 5 stars, well furnished, comfortable, everything you could possibly want. You have to try out the 7 foot bed…. Le Clezio is in a great location for what ever holiday you choose, action or relaxing. We really enjoyed the romantic walks along the canal in the evening. We would highly recommend a holiday here. "We were looking for somewhere relaxing and tranquil and that's exactly what we got. Right from the outset we were impressed with the communication from the owners. We received a very warm welcome and guided tour of the cottage. Kevin and Louise have put a great deal of thought into Le Clezio. The interior of the cottage is immaculate and very well equipped. The owners are delightful and very knowledgeable about the local area. They are extremely accommodating without being intrusive. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful garden and freedom to cycle. The peace is addictive at Le Clezio"

"We have just returned from a wonderful week in Le Clezio. The longere is situated in a rural area & backs onto a canal with a water mill. The house has been beautifully refurbished & is very comfortable, with everything you might need for a relaxing self-catering holiday. Kevin and Louise were extremely welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we had all we needed - nothing seemed to be any trouble.
The area around the Le Clezio is beautiful. There are shops and amenities nearby and some lovely places to visit within easy reach.
Truly priceless.
Thank you Kevin, Louise & Brie (the dog)"
