The
Experience

Steamer trunks and leather club chairs, deep-set windows and hefty beams, a family to greet you and Patrick’s great food: welcome to an escape by the sea. Patrick was a chef in Paris (note the fine potager and cookery classes available), Christine is the talent behind the quietly original bedroom décor (hemp, seagrass, organic colours) and the farmhouse once belonged to the château. There are walks in the woods and good cycling nearby, you are well placed for Vannes and the Morbihan Gulf yet the coastal inlet is five minutes away. Separated from the road by a grassy courtyard, the wall encloses a sunny terrace on which children may play.

Reviews

Just as perfect as before. Our second visit to this wonderful welcoming place. Rooms clean and comfortable. Food wholesome and delicious. Lovely hosts. Tranquil yet convenient location. Highly recommended, we will return.

Talvern is situated in a quiet rural setting outside Lavénant, and if you are seeking peace and tranquillity, look no further. The old farm house has been immaculately restored with 5 bedrooms, and the garden is a pleasure for roaming or resting. Everything was beautifully presented and of good quality, and the bed was firm and comfortable. Between them, Patrick and Christine produce some wonderful food, cheese and preserves from the garden and local area which are well worth trying. They are charming hosts and make every effort to give guests a wonderful experience.

A wonderful find! Beautifully restored farm buildings in a lovely garden with comfortable accommodation close to Carnac and Vannes. Christine and Patrick are very friendly and informative hosts who speak excellent English for those afraid to try their French! They had lots of ideas for places to visit off the beaten track. Patrick is an amazing chef and we were treated to wonderful three course dinners - so good, we ate there all three nights. The fish soup was out of this world and superb puddings. Home griown produce, and Christine's jams were the highlight of breakfast. Highly recommended.

As my husband and I were travelling to the Morbihan, we decided to stop at Talvern and to have dinner there. We first enjoyed the garden, which was very pleasant. Dinner was a real delicacy, including produce from their garden, and it was a pleasure to chat with our lovely hosts! Our bedroom was very clean and comfortable. Finally, breakfast (again, perfect!) was served with jams, cheese, breton far (a traditional cake) and smoothies, all homemade. Thank you very much! (I will have to remember to buy the green tomatoes and lime jam next time, which looked delicious).

Talvern is a lovely peaceful B&B about one kilometre from the village, set in a beautiful garden. The surrounding woodland is ideal for long walks. Patrick & Christine were wonderful hosts and our accommodation was spacious & comfortable. We loved the hearty breakfasts, Patrick's dinners and the cooking class. Highly recommended as a place to stay and great value.

The second time we have stayed with Patrick and Christine and would 100% recommend. Great hospitality and rooms; Patrick is a superb chef and the food is both local and/or grown in their garden. Better than eating out by far.

Diana, Guernsey

Charming hosts and wonderful food. Comfortable accommodation.

We've just returned from our second visit to Talvern, Brittany. Patrick and Christine were welcoming hosts. The meals were delicious, particularly as the produce was home grown. We have returned with a selection of Christine's jams, which will remind us of our happy holiday with our charming hosts at Talvern.

Heather

A quiet place with charming hosts. Ideally placed to visit many attractive places around this part of Bretagne. Patrick is a very good cook. We enjoyed his dinners and Christine's jams for breakfast.

Antonia, Barcelona

Lovely property, beautiful gardens with an amazing array of fruit and vegetables, comfortable, spacious accommodation in a suite, wonderful dinner and breakfast. Patrick and Christine were extremely welcoming and friendly hosts. We will certainly return if in the area again and will recommend to friends and family.

Vicky, Bristol

We were 6 tired cyclists who rolled up at Talvern. It proved the most wonderful place to arrive at..... a lovely house, beautiful garden and delicious evening meal and breakfast. Patrick and Christine were warm and friendly hosts and we all wished we could have stayed longer. I really recommend this as a great place to stay.

Susan, Bristol

Overnight stay at this beautifully renovated farmhouse with its huge fruit and vegetable garden. Very welcoming hosts and excellent dinner prepared by chef Patrick. Particular praise for the plentiful use of fresh vegetables - often lacking in restaurant meals in France. Very comfortable accommodation - lovely cool bedroom on hot day and first class bathroom. Last but not least - top quality and excellent value.

Zara, Gerrards cross

This was our first stop in a holiday touring France, and what a great choice it was. Our room was huge and really well fitted out. The shower was especially luxurious. Best of all was the food, all cooked by Patrick, with a very strong emphasis on fish. The fish soup was especially memorable.

Liz, Devon

Very friendly and helpful, everyone who stayed ate together for breakfast and evening meal. The food was delicious, everything homemade and lots of fish, no point in going out to find a restaurant. Patrick and Christine offered good advice on where to visit, especially away from tourist areas, if that is what you wanted. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Ian

A superb B&B; wonderful rooms and surroundings, very peaceful, and excellent food, but best of all, we enjoyed the company of the exceptional hosts. We felt very welcomed, and as friends. There is no doubt we will return, as some of our fellow guests were already doing, for the third or fourth time! We have stayed in at least 30 B&Bs in France in recent years: there is no doubt this is one of the best! Our thanks to Patrick and Christine.

Fiona

Completely wonderful. We've never had better. Great place to stay. INÉDIT!

Joe

Our French hosts, Patrick and Christine, provided a charming welcome at this Breton accomodation. It's close to the lovely Ethel valley and the extraordinary Golfe de Morhiban. We enjoyed Patrick's cuisine reflected in a bizarre combination of breakfast jams, mouth-watering bread and glorious dinners in a communal setting. We will return again to this very French and welcoming holiday location.

Margaret

I've spent 6 nights in Talvern with my younger son, and could have stayed a month! We've really had a home feeling in our tastefully decorated "Jeanne suite". Patrick and Christine are wonderfull attentive hosts, and we trully enjoyed Patrick's dinners. The food was delicious, creative, and prepared with local fresh products, including organic vegetables and fruits from the garden. Breakfasts were enlightened by Christine amazing jams! Altogether, a rare feast of excellent cooking!! The region is beautiful, and there is much to discover, following Patrick and Christine's advices.

Sabine

A beautiful find in the quiet Breton country-side. The place is only 20 minutes away from Lorient and the venue of the annual Interceltic Folk festival which was the reason for our choice of accommodation. Patrick was a delightful host and wonderful cook. We enjoyed our beautifully presented evening meals and the surprising mix of home-made jams at breakfast. If you love the quiet Breton countryside, lovely home-made food, buutterflies and owls, this place is strongly recommended. We shall certainly be returning there!

Margaret

A real find, with delightful and helpful hosts, lovely rooms, good area for touring and visiting, and the most fabulous evening meals. Hard to think how it could be improved! We shall return.
