The Experience
On the edge of Meursault – wine lover’s heaven, great for foodies too – is a dear little 18th-century house, tall, slim and perfectly restored. Its four storeys have been radically converted to a light airy space furnished in best contemporary style. How nice to come home to a smart grey sofa with plum velvet cushions, polished floorboards, music, WiFi and flat-screen TV: the sitting room, on the first-floor mezzanine, looks down onto a super-duper kitchen kitted out in white and cherry-red. From here, French windows open to a small stone and gravel garden, while a tall window above pulls in the light. Bedrooms and shower rooms wait at the top, immaculate in every way; at entrance level, off the street, is a big useful space for your washing machine, boiler and freezer; all has been excellently considered. Pop out for croissants down the street and bring them back to the stylish elmwood table; or, on warm days, outside. Look forward to all those glorious vineyards in which the area is steeped – especially those of the Chateau de Mersault, where generous tastings are held in most magnificent cellars.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from David Kerr
- Meursault is one of the greatest white wine villages in the world and one of the prettiest in the Cote D'Or. Just to wander in peace through its 17th century streets and its elegant stone houses is a joy.
- The village is a great place to stay because it has 4 restaurants in the main square, just over five minutes walk from the house. You can also find a butchers, two boulangeries and a grocers/convenience store there.
- The location is also a great base for exploring the Cote D'Or and its wonderful wine and food. The bustling medieval market town of Beaune is just five minutes drive away and there are lots of other famous wine villages around you.
- The Cote D'Or is one of the great Wine Trips and if you want to taste the wines or walk and cycle through the vineyards and villages that make it so special, this house in Meursault makes the perfect base.
