The
Experience

From this peaceful spot, meander through gentle countryside to reach wine tastings, visit the hill town of Vézelay with its Benedictine abbey or to canoe from Saint-Père. Return to a homely place, where guests have a separate entrance and a living room, as well as access to a handy fridge and microwave. ‘Gamay’ on the ground floor has its own little courtyard terrace for quiet relaxation, and there’s a big garden with fruit and vegetable patches and spaces for outdoor dining. Lovely Irish hosts Anne and Stuart offer boulangerie goodies, homemade jam, eggs and yogurts from the nearby farm for breakfast, and serve up good value dinners too.

Reviews

We have just come back from our third visit to Jardin d'Amis. The accommodation is classical French elegance at its best and the delicious food is home made and locally sourced wherever possible. Stuart and Anne never fail to give us a wonderfully warm welcome and I would recommend anyone to take a detour to visit this little gem.

Lynne, York

We have been staying with Anne and her husband in their wonderful house for a number of years and will be heading there again later this year. They are very good at making their visitors feel welcome and at home - nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are very well appointed and comfortable. Local produce is used whenever possible for meals and often comes freshly picked from their own garden! Delightful and highly recommended.

Rebecca, Abergavenny

We visited Jardin d'Amis in May 2013 and found Anne and Stuart to be the perfect hosts. Their property is a lovely and very comfortable farmhouse and we especially enjoyed the wonderful meals. There is plenty to do and see in the area and Anne and Stuart helped us with their advice and directions.

Local points of interest from Anne Irwin

  • Wine Tasting-Drinking-Buying - Chablis, Sancerre, Pouilly Fumé - need we say more ..... if we must.... Pommard, Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges... it is Burgundy after all!
  • Guédelon, where they are building a castle over 25 years, using the tools and techniques of the Middle Ages as seen in the BBC2 series ‘Secrets of the Castle’.
  • Vézelay and its Basilica (UNESCO site), from where Richard the Lionheart launched the Third Crusade in 1190 and still a starting point for the Santiago de Compostella route.
  • The Morvan Natural Park (larger than the Peak District) is on your doorstep. Wild swimming & kayaking in its lakes and rivers, mountain biking, forest walks and wildlife, cycling along the canal - everything for the outdoor enthusiast.
  • Visit medieval Auxerre, Nevers on the river Loire and Clamecy on the Nivernais Canal. Small is beautiful too … lots of little treasures in the villages, vide-greniers and markets - come and see for yourself.
  • We are well known for delicious home cooked meals using fresh ingredients from our garden and local producers, but if you are looking for something more sophisticated we are happy to recommend a number of excellent local restaurants.
