The
Experience

Down a winding village lane, tucked between friendly little houses, you’re just minutes away from the silvery Loire. Meet the villagers in Sandra’s bar, or wine, dine and dance the night away in one of the many village fêtes – this house is for the gregarious. Freshly restored to a spick and span standard by English owner Jackie – it’s a real home from home. The king-size bed in the master bedroom and both twins have top of the range mattresses and silk duvets. Both bathrooms are glossily new with generous walk-in Italian showers. The galley kitchen has been thoughtfully stocked with all you need, right down to freezer blocks for your picnic. The snug sitting/dining room opens onto two sheltered terraces – one east-facing for sunny breakfasts, one west-facing for your convivial sundowners. Explore the many famous vineyards, stroll or cycle the towpath or take time out in historic cities and chateaux. Bon viveurs can treat their taste-buds to traditional cuisine and sample fine wines in the many local restaurants. A charming little house which is extremely good value in this famous Loire area.

Reviews

We decided to stay in this wonderful cottage after recommendation from both our son and my husband’s sister. The cottage has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated. It is equipped with high quality furnishings and is immaculate in every way including a lovely walled garden as to enjoy your meals outside. Although just my husband and I stayed in the cottage there is more than enough space for four people to stay. The owner was receptive to all our needs and any of our queries were dealt with in a timely manner. We would definitely recommend anyone to stay in this lovely cottage.

We had a wonderful week and loved this little house: it was pristine, nicely decorated, comfortable, and well equipped. The thick walls kept it cool during an intense short-lived heatwave. The village and area are peaceful and untouristy. We found plenty to do: especially enjoyed a trip to the medieval castle project at Guedelon (as featured on BBC2's 'Secrets of the Castle'). Also enjoyed canoeing, cycling, sightseeing at La Charite-sur-Loire, and sitting in the garden with a glass of chilled Pouilly Fume!

Local points of interest from Jackie Chapelow

  • Walk or take a leisurely canoe trip on the Loire, either way you will experience beautiful landscapes, birdsong and perhaps beavers. For the more active there is the 'velo route' to cycle along with the option of taking the train home.
  • Visit La Charite sur Loire a fortified medieval town with a 12th century 'Norte Dame' church- once an important stop for pilgrims on the Santiago de Compostela route. It is now a 'book town' blessed with a calendar full of festivals and concerts.
  • If you like wine, nothing beats 'La Tour du Pouilly-Fume' for an introduction to the wines from Pouilly sur Loire, you can finish with a tutored wine tasting you are now ready to visit the vineyards.
  • Try the famous goat cheese ' Crottin de Chavignol'. Legend has it that the idea of pruning the vines came after a goat owner noticed that the best grapes came from vines nibbled by his goats!
  • The house is in the middle of 'La Route Jacques-Coeur' offering 16 Chateaux and historical sites, together with an abundance of beautiful gardens, you will never be lost for something to do.
  • Visit nearby Sancerre, Vezelay, Bourges and Nevers all beautiful towns with major historical sites to see.
