Château de la Resle

Montigny la Resle, Yonne
Bed & Breakfast

Johan and Pieter, your happy Dutch hosts, have created a modern and stylish home, complete with fitness room - vineyards and walks beckon

12 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 4

Built for a dignitary who lost his head in the French Revolution, this handsome house sits on an impeccable estate of landscaped gardens, neat, gravelled, lavender-lined paths, plus orangerie, pond and hornbeam maze. Johan and Pieter, your smiley, engaging, humorous hosts, came from Holland several years ago and have made everything elegant, modern and stylish. A fine stone staircase with a wrought-iron banister leads to spacious, minimally furnished rooms painted in muted hues of moss and deep-blue; views ponder over the gardens to hilly horizons, and fabulous modern art hangs on the walls. A further huge suite with a fine dressing area lies under dramatic roof carpentry in a cottage outside. Bathrooms are spotless white with state-of-the-art showers, pale pebble floors, beautiful accessories and chunky towels. Tuck into breakfast in the vast dining room with its dark walls and limestone flags, then work it off in the first-floor fitness room. Or set off for the vineyards and the wine tastings, the pretty villages with their ancient half-timbered houses, the walks and the cycle rides. Fabulous in every way.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Johan Bouman & Pieter Franssens

  • Burgundy is a great destination for a short break with lots of things to see.
  • Explore the vineyards of Chablis, visit the abbey of Fontenay and Vezelay (both Unesco World Heritage sites), cycle along the Canal du Nivernais.
  • New in 2019: we now have two electrical bicycles for rent for a tour through the Burgundy country side and the Chablis wine area. It is strongly recommended to book before arrival!
  • On a gastronomic note we have a great selection of restaurants which we are happy to recommend and book for you, such as L'Aspérule restaurant in Auxerre.
  • But sometimes the only thing you want to is to enjoy the country side and stay in the ”bubble” that we created at Château de la Resle. You can relax in our wellness area or read a book by the pool.
  • Château de la Resle has a gym to exercise and a heated outdoor swimming pool to find refreshment in the summer. In spring and autumn you might prefer to use the sauna or steam bath and enjoy a massage.
