The Experience

Sink into a sofa in the light airy sitting room with a glass of champagne from Laurence’s bar. There’s an excellent restaurant 9km away, and a pizza place in the village; but we suggest you dine in.

This is a modest house that’s been luxuriously revived; to enter is a wonderful surprise. All is immaculate and guaranteed to soothe, from the gliding glass doors to the art on the walls. Bedrooms – two downstairs, two under the eaves – exude a zen-like charm.

You are in the undulating, forested Pays d’Othe, known for its cider trails and just eight minutes away from the famous champagne producers route. Walk, cycle, ride (there’s a stables down the road) and revel in the apple blossom in spring. Soak up the history of 16th-century Troyes, treasured for its timbered houses and its graceful cathedral. Return to the pretty garden and pool – good for families.

Reviews

We stayed overnight on our trip from the Dordogne and loved the Place and the very friendlly owner. Everything is brandnew/higly modern: rainshowerbathroom, beds, heatingsystem - even a pool! Beautiful Laurence - new in business - is very helpfull and knowledgeable. Nearby Troyes is a cultural gem and well worth a visit. Uti&Willem, Frankfurt

Villa D’Othe is a haven of peace in the middle of bucolic countryside. Laurence is very welcoming and warm – she gives you the best advice about champagne and wine tasting! It’s luxurious and comfortable too with stunning interior decoration.

Location

The neighbourhood

The area is known for its beautiful countryside; take a walk in the forests nearby. Historic Aix en Othe is close (10km), known for its timbered market hall. Art lovers will head for Troyes (30km) and the Musée d’Art Moderne; discover Degas, Matisse, Picasso, Soutine. Vaudeurs (30km), the region’s cider capital, has an apple and cider museum. You're just eight minutes from the famous champagne producers route.

Local points of interest from Laurence Houdre

  • Troyes is largely a 16th century city. The modern city is a direct descendant of its medieval predecessor, with its characteristic city centre in the shape of champagne cork - a happy omen that predicted the meteoric rise of the local sparkling wine...
  • Troyes also has an incredible collection of timber-framed houses, is home to the most stunning collection of painted stained glass windows in Europe, is renowned for its ten churches and the Modern Art Museum "LEVY".
  • My Villa and especially the bedrooms are based on 3 painters from the collection of Pierre LEVY.Reproduction paintings were given to me by the family.
  • Gastronomy and specialities: Andouillette, Chaource (Pays d'Othe), Cider (Pays d'Othe) and lots of local delicious products. Growers and producers will introduce you to the riches of our Region. Visit and taste the fantastic Champagne just down the road!
  • Access lots of sports and leisure from my area like hiking, horse or donkey hiking, cycling, fishing in lakes, discovery trails, golf...just ask for recommendations!
  • Troyes is the "capital of hosiery" - enjoy some retail therapy at the McarthurGlen Troyes center!

Introducing

Laurence Houdre

Gentle Laurence, who worked in Deauville for 20 years, has returned to her roots; she spent her childhood here. She is welcoming, soft-spoken, and loves art; the names of the bedrooms include Dufy, Derain, Fauves. She also knows a lot about champagne and wine and has been granted a license to sell alcohol to guests so make the most of it.
