The large attractive farmhouse is surrounded by nature. In spring and autumn you can see migrating cranes as they gather in their thousands on the farm’s fields, and beyond on Lac du Der. Come to simply slow down and relax; it’s a wonderful place to write, read, draw or take photos.
Arrive for afternoon tea, which Christine serves in the elegant panelled salon. The B&B has its own entrance, so you’re free to come and go, and handsome bedrooms lie across the top two floors. Breakfast is a treat: home-produced honey and homemade cakes, yogurt, cheese, bread and jams.
Fish in the grounds, wander in the garden and orchard or head off for the southern section of the Route de Champagne and the wonderful artisan producers around Bar sur Aube (35km). Come home to supper in the dining room or out in the garden: homegrown veg, local charcuterie, cheese, wine, a tomato pie perhaps – a delicious and generous help-yourself affair. Homemade and regional products are available to buy as well.
