The Experience
Pack the house with family, friends or a bunch of musicians and relax contentedly in the sleepy Aube valley. Les Pommiers, with its distinctive little tower, is in a row of old houses in quiet Dancevoir. UK-based owners Nicola and Nick have filled it with lovely French furniture, pretty vintage bedspreads and musical touches; the homely kitchen/diner has all you need to cook on wood burning range or electric cooker. Upstairs is a comfy sitting room with splendid grand piano (available on request) – it’s an airy space where violin teacher Nicola brings her string quintet to rehearse. Bedrooms are upstairs, downstairs or in a quirky converted henhouse with low doorway; they share three bathrooms including a whizzy shower room in the barn. Sit in the lawned garden, pick apples, pears and plums in season – swings, trampoline, ping pong and paddling pool keep youngsters happy. Borrow bikes or walk to a water hole to swim; for supplies try the village shop, or drive 15 minutes to two small towns for more choice. Champagne is in reach for bubbly tastings; for a spot of French history visit Charles de Gaulle’s home village.

Much love has obviously been poured into this characterful property over the years. The huge collection of books, toys and games, not to mention the beautiful and spacious walled garden, kept us all so well occupied that the delights of the surrounding region will have to wait for another visit. Dancevoir is remote, so the village shop was very welcome. Numerous well-maintained bikes of all sizes are ideal for exploring the local area. We didn’t miss a swimming pool, thanks to the paddling pool and the thick stone walls of the house which kept the inside wonderfully cool. A relaxing retreat!

Sumptuous accommodation both inside and out, with an enclosed garden, paddling pools, trampoline and ping pong in the barn - making it perfect for our families to have bags of space and fun. Long lazy lunches in the garden for the grown ups, a quietly interesting village to explore on bikes, out to the swimming hole and further afield to the delights of the Cremant vineyards, and much more besides in Troyes. Very much hoping to return!

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Nicholas Jackman
- Les pommiers is a 17th century stone house in a quiet village called Dancevoir which nestles in the forested valley of the Aube river in rural Eastern France. If you are looking for great walking or cycling along quiet roads or forests tracks this is it!
- The peaceful walled garden is mostly orchard with lovely old apple and quetsche/plum trees which give shade and fruit in season! It's a great place to retire with a book and a glass of the local Crémant. The kids should be happy with swings and trampoline.
- The house is well placed to explore historic towns such as the nearby medieval town of Langres ,or spend a day exploring Dijon, Troyes or Beaune. Why not visit Renoir's house at Essoyes, Chateaux at Dinteville or Tanlay or the wonderful Abbey at Fontenay
- Stroll down to the village shop to pick up pastries or have a drink at the bar with the locals. Jump in the car and follow the route de Crémant, visit Chablis, drive north for champagne, head south for Burgundian reds!
- For musicians the upstairs salon is a great space for a string quartet and the lovely old Pleyel grand piano is available on request. For nature lovers the wild flowers and orchids are lovely, hear the owls, woodpeckers, nuthatch and nightingale if lucky
- For keeping cool walk or cycle to good local swimming holes in the river, great for picnics or drive to one of the lakes at Langres which have beaches. There is tennis in the village, golf, horse riding ,fishing and kayaking are all available near by

A spacious, warm, comfortable and well equipped house with lots of rural charm as well as modern appointments. Perfect for two families with young children plus two grandparents. A huge kitchen and dining area with an equally huge sitting room upstairs with sofas, tv, books and games. Dancevoir was excellent for country walks and safe cycle rides for the children. The owners are friendly and helpful and clearly want their guests to enjoy their stay.
