The
Experience

Stay in rustic splendour in an imposing, walled medieval fortress surrounded by gorgeous countryside with many hilltop villages to visit. The wine is good, food delicious and there’s much interesting wildlife to spot.

Bring hiking boots, borrow bikes; ride horses; come as a group and take all three cottages. Eat Jurassien feasts at the huge stone table in the courtyard or under the poolside pergola; stroll down to the lake at the end of the impressive park for a spot of wild swimming and bobbing about.

Pierre will tell you about the lynx that roam the surrounding forests and advise on everything from fishing in Lake Vouglans to Festivals in Beaume les Messieurs. Take time too, to do not very much: settle by a log-burning fire, drink in the views, watch and listen – the Jura is a nature-lover’s dream.

Reviews

Great place to stay! Beautifully and lovingly restored cottages in a wonderful and quiet setting. The grounds are brilliant for kids to run around and go adventuring in a safe environment! The host was fantastic, showed us round the castle and gave us lots of very useful local tips. It was too cold for us to use it, but the pool would be an amazing extra in the summer!

Location

The neighbourhood

This region, to the north of Lake Geneva, has a fine wildness of countryside, with dramatic rock formations and waterfalls; its isolated forests shelter France’s last free lynx. Pierre will direct you to the best local markets and to nearby Arbois for Jurassien wines. Two of ‘France’s Prettiest’ hill-top villages: Château Chalon and Beaume les Messieurs - with Abbey and caves - are half an hour’s drive away; so is lovely Lake Vouglans.

Local points of interest from Pierre JACQUEMIN

  • The Pool: Refresh yourself in our perfectly exposed pool of 12 x 6 m overlooking the valley of the Petite Montagne. An intimate universe where the water, the stone and the wood unite to offer you real stolen moments of paradise...
  • Boat trips: Embark with us! Discover Lake Vouglans, huge expanse of turquoise water with a length of 35km, nicknamed the ‘Emerald Giant.’ We’ll help you enjoy the tranquillity, uniqueness and wild beauty of the site.
  • Bike rides: The more athletic can satiate their passion by escaping to the heart of nature with the mountain bikes we offer to roam the many trails that line the park of the castle.
  • Fishing in the pond: Still in the park, the pond of Beau Regard will allow the youngest to discover the joys of fishing. Thanks to the equipment available they can try their luck with the many fish.
  • Horse stables: Riding enthusiasts will appreciate the quality of the facilities we offer. Saddlery, boxes, watering troughs, fodder, fenced parks… all these facilities of exceptional standing are at your disposal.
  • Meet our exceptional mascot, Denise: an old tawny owl who lives the day in a chimney of the castle, and who poses like a starlet when the hosts photograph her!
