The Experience

There’s a thousand years of history steeped in the tower and walls of this château but much has been altered and rebuilt since: a spectacular 17th-century stone staircase, 18th-century frescoes, Art Deco wallpaper and tiles. When Dominica and Philippe arrived in 2010 they installed a modern heating system with lashings of hot water so now you get deep comfort in an ancient castle. View-filled bedrooms (one looks over the Corbières) are simply but well furnished with original furniture, new mattresses, modern bathrooms. Your generous hosts feed you well: continental breakfast on the terrace, join them for a barbecue supper.

We enjoyed some of our most memorable holiday experiences while staying in this incredibly beautiful & inspiring chateau. You could not ask for more friendly, helpful & engaging hosts - thank you Dominica & Philippe for looking after us so well. Your three course dinner was hands-down the best meal we’ve had on our trip so far. And your home made bread was a highlight of the comprehensive breakfast. You have extraordinary vision & good taste in regards to how you have transformed this stunning chateau over the years with thoughtful finishes. We also loved the village festival, so much fun!

I stayed during a bike tour along the Canal du Midi in the castle, I had only booked for one night and that was much too short. I would have liked to stay longer in that wonderful place. The beautiful garden , the tastefull rooms, a superb dinner, a breakfast with freshly baked madeleines. .Good humoured , attentive hosts!

The building is a stone, very arty Chateau with fascinating quirky rooms. Accommodation was excellent with a beautiful wild garden. Breakfasts were superb with lots of fresh fruit and home made jams. Dominica and Philippe are lovely people and were extremely helpful with our queries and problems including our poor French. People with mobility issues may find the stone stairways difficult.

We had a fantastic stay at Chateau de Puicheric with a warm welcome from Dominica and Philippe. The room was comfortable and spacious, and the rest of the house and gardens were glorious and interesting. We were made to feel thoroughly at home and were served a delicious breakfast outdoors, which included tasty homemade muffins and jams. Our children particularly enjoyed lounging in the hammocks, playing with the guinea pigs, and aiming for high scores on Philippe's vintage pinball machine. We'd thoroughly recommend this place and would like to return one day.

A very warm welcome awaits you at this amazing place. The chateau gradually reveals itself as you arrive in a pretty courtyard filled with plants, to your rooms which are extremely comfortably appointed, with super bathrooms (great showers!), and stunning views. The garden is wonderful. You feel as if you are suspended in the sky, surrounded by plants, with marvellous views and lots of thoughtfully placed seating areas. Sharing a delicious dinner out here with Dominica and Philippe was magical; they are a delightful couple and went to great lengths to make us welcome. We will return. Fabulous!

Staying with Dominica and Philippe in their amazing chateau was a truly wonderful experience. They changed their own plans to allow us to arrive on New Year's Eve and we spent an unexpected and amazingly fun evening in their company, eating Dominica's delicious food. They are the warmest and most welcoming of hosts and we felt lucky to have the chance to stay in their incredible home. This is not a place to stay if you don't want to be part of the Chateau family while you're there. We were delighted to be!

  • Day visits galore await you: the languid Canal du Midi, the coastal lagoons at Bages and Peyriac-sur-Mer, Leucate with its oysters, idyllic river swimming holes, some more secret than others; numerous farmers markets...
  • the Cathar stronghold of Minerve and the Cathar castles (Quéribus, Peyrepertuse), not forgetting Europe’s largest walled mediaeval city at Carcassonne… and everywhere you drive, tempting wine-tasting cellars, filled with Languedoc’s throng of AOCs.
