A lovely estate in a super setting, surrounded by rugged hills and hiking trails. Come to be immersed in viticulture, 700 acres of peace, a great market in Narbonne, a short hop to Spain for the Dali Museum and to pretty, foodie Bages. Return to two simple gites facing the chateau courtyard or, further up the hill, a house with its own pool. Le Genets is linked to Les Lavandes by a long blue-painted balcony and both have their own patio gardens with lavender, jasmine and fig trees – the perfect spot for a BBQ. You’ll find fresh, inviting and simply-furnished interiors with colourful bedspreads, interesting brocante, plenty of DVDs and games, kitchens with all the stuff you need. Residence Java sits among ancient pine trees, surrounded by olives and with commanding views to mountains and coast. A big lofty sitting room has plenty of sofas and a wood-burner, the kitchen is small and friendly, there’s space for everyone at the refectory table and doors to a terrace can be flung open in summer. You get your own pool too. Owners Penny and Paul can organise a 4X4 tour of the vineyard, and visits to the cellar – the highlight of the stay for most.
