The Experience
This stone winery and barrel store have been painstakingly restored to retain their original charm with the highest quality finishes. Each has their own terrace for dining and heated swimming pool so it’s perfect for having some privacy, or a fantastic set-up for a larger group too.
Jacquie and Stuart live next door and are relaxed and helpful – they’re happy to make restaurant bookings and have lots of local knowledge on nearby activites and daytrips. Find a bottle of wine and cupboard essentials in the light-filled, well-equipped kitchens and modern, airy lounges next door. Step out onto the terrace to fire up the BBQ and sip local wine as the sun sets.
Drive five minutes to the nearest restaurant in St Jean du Minervois, L’Auberge de L’Ecole – you can pick up takeaway pizza here too. There are great little restaurants, shops and a boulangerie in Bize Minervois and larger supermarkets in St Chinian, both 15 minutes’ drive away, as well as several weekly nearby markets. The magnificent fortress city of Carcassonne and Narbonne’s Mediterranean beaches are an hour away.

Accommodation
Location
The neighbourhood
The gites are in a small hamlet on the edge of the Haut-Languedoc Parc Naturel and the area teems with wildlife, especially birds. Ask your hosts about walking routes, horseriding and hiring bikes nearby; spend the afternoon cycling along the Canal du Midi 15 km away. The historic Cathar City of Minerve is a 15-minute drive and the ancient town of Béziers an hour.
Local points of interest from Stuart Gregory
- We live on the edge of the Haut-Languedoc Parc Naturel, home to the endangered Bonelli’s eagle, orchids, dormice and other wildlife. Visit in spring to see eagles hunting around the house and listen to nightingales all day and night.
- Our 5* gites (40 reviews) are located in a tiny hamlet hidden in a peaceful & wooded limestone valley. Each house is set up as flexible accommodation perfect for couples or larger groups. 50% of our guests are couples
- We are only 5 minutes drive from a Michelin starred resteraunt and we can recommend many other great places to eat within a 20 minute drive. The Sunday and Thursday food market in St Chinian is a real treat. They also host an antique market on Saturdays
- We are surrounded by award winning wineries and picturesque vineyards. We even found a bottle of our neighbours wine in an organic wine bar in New York.
- The area is great for walking and cycling. Hire bikes can be delivered to your door. We can show you places to visit and the best routes to use. And there are some fantastic Mediterranean beaches a 40-60 minute drive from here.
- There are a host of historic and prehistoric sites in the area - from Cathar castles to Neanderthal caves. We even have bronze age burial sites in the valley and have dug up roman pottery and dinosaur bones in our vines.

Introducing
Stuart Gregory
Architect Jacquie and biologist Stuart moved here in 2004 for the fantastic location, rare wildlife, and peaceful living (the hamlet has a population of 15). They love it here, and feel like they are on a 'permanent holiday'. They live with their three children, two cats and a horse, who you'll no doubt meet during your stay.
Le Grand Duc and Petit Duc have been a labour of love for Stuart and Jaquie. Their passion for the building is clear to see and they’ve retained the uniqueness of the properties while adding to them. The location and views are nature’s great contribution.
