The Experience

Towering over the village, by the castle, this handsome 17th-century townhouse mixes history and modernity with panache. Vaulted ceilings and flagged floors sit with modern art and black leather. Bedrooms are huge, spread between the two towers. Colours are soft, bedlinens crisp, fine antiques nudge funky lights, bold rugs are spread on ancient tiles. Two rooms are duplex with stunning staircases. All have views over the courtyard garden. Breakfast – organic and homemade – is here or in the vaulted dining hall; dinners, too. Nimes and Avignon are close or relax in the garden with its scents, secluded corners, and secret jacuzzi.

Monte-Arena is a special place to stay and Martine is a very special hostess. We enjoyed sumptuous breakfasts in the delightful covered courtyard, sampling Martine’s wonderful jams and produce surrounded by her amazing plant collection. We also enjoyed the lovely bed linen and bathroom products, but mostly we enjoyed the warmth, hospitality and travel/shopping advice offered by Martine during our stay.

What a wonderful place! We set off with friends for a quick getaway weekend and were thoroughly spoilt. The hosts are extremely welcoming and professional, their home is fabulous and the food delicious - be that the breakfasts or the table d'hôte supper Martine prepared for us. Our suite was extremely spacious and decorated with great taste. The beds and linen are luxurious. The village is delightful and very close to Uzès. We can't recommend it enough and look forward to going back!

I came for one night and stayed a week. It is a fabulous place to stay. A medieval chateau with atmosphere , exquisitely decorated and every contemporary need catered for. But the real joy has been meeting Martine and her charming family. There is a naturalness and generosity in their welcome that makes being here delightful.

Bill, Beckenham

A magnificent home with the most caring owners you could wish for.Superb breakfast.A cultural paradise. We have stayed in many B and Bs and we rate this the best of them all.
