The Experience

Built on massive vaulted 13th century cellars, Eric and Stephen’s 300-year-old mansion is surrounded by rich green countryside.

Start the day with continental breakfast on the east-facing terrace – choose from a selection of breads, pastries, fruits, meats and cheeses. Discover the market in nearby Lodève and return with organic goodies. Soak up the sun in the private walled garden and cool down with a few laps in the pool, or head to nearby Lake Salagou for walking through Grand Canyon-esque landscapes and a wild swim.

Admire stunning hilltop views at the château with a glass of wine in hand and the smell of lavender in the air before dinner is served up at a long, convivial table.

A beautiful home in a very picturesque setting. Eric and Stephan are attentive, kind and generous hosts who make their guests feel thoroughly welcome and comfortable. The rooms are elegant, superbly decorated and, for our February stay, very cosy. We'd love to return in the summer and spend time in the lovely garden and pool. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious and the chef used ingredients from her own garden. Thank you again!

Lisa & Edouard, Lyon

These are a charming couple of chaps, generous with their time and attention. Enjoy the exceptionally peaceful atmosphere, your hosts and their excellent conversation, and the ancient house with its quirks, corners and views.

The neighbourhood

Olmet-et-Villecun is a typical rural ‘commune’ or village that was originally peasant dwellings, made up of around twenty stone houses encircling a church - you reach the château by twists and turns on forest-flanked roads. It’s a quiet area with the markets, shops and cafés of Lodève just ten minutes away by car. Cosmopolitan Montpellier, beaches and fishing villages are 45 minutes and the Hérault Gorges are about an hour away and fun for kayaking.

Local points of interest from Eric & Stephen

  • Château d'Olmet is a unique adult hideaway in South France. Stay in one of five spacious suites/rooms with exceptional views over the surrounding area, the perfect place to unwind.
  • The area around Chateau d'Olmet offers many exciting opportunities to spend your holidays including visiting landmark sites (grand sites de France). Not far from Olmet you find lakes, rivers and the Mediterranean sea plus smaller typically French towns.
  • HIKING: Chateau d'Olmet is perfectly placed for walking tours. Tour of lake Salagou, the Cirque DU Bout Du Monde in the foothills of the Larzac, or Les Corniches de Lauroux. For amazing views try pic-saint-loup.
  • BIKING: Cycle around the lake Salagou and stop at Celles an abandoned village and Octon for lunch. HORSE RIDING: We recommend the horse safari with Le Cheval Des Terres Rouges
  • Markets and Wine: Lodève market every Saturday morning is a great place to go for local foods and wines. During the summer months you also have great evening markets in Octon and Pezenas. Chateau d'Olmet stocks some delicious local wines.
  • The guest rooms are all situated in the main building dating back to the 18th century. The guest bedrooms/suites have been recently renovated to a high standard and are individually decorated keeping in mind the history of the building.

Eric & Stephen

Luxembourger Eric and Guernsey native Stephen are a charming couple - generous with their time and attention, eager to chat and tell their stories. After living professional lives in London (in IT and airline respectively), the couple took early retirement to get out of the city, happily settling in Languedoc. Parker Puss, Eric's fine smug-faced British Shorthair lives with them.
