Bed & Breakfast

You will be pampered to the eyeballs in your super-comfy suite between Barbara's fine hall and Richard's snooker den; lie back and enjoy it

1 room

Rooms sleep 2

Barbara loves pampering her guests with perfect details. You have a cosy king-size room with an inspired mix of old and new furnishings – a stone basin on a chunk of wild wood and initialled pillows – and a double-aspect living room (fireplace, sofa and glass table) leading out to a big hillside garden (the free-range hens provide your breakfast eggs) and a spot in the sun in the newly-planted citrus courtyard. Enjoy this friendly, generous couple’s fine art collection and travellers’ tales from afar. Then set out to explore the little towns and natural wonders of the unsung Languedoc – and return to a dip in your hosts’ hidden pool.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Barbara Simpson-Birks

  • Walk through the woods to Villeneuvette to our local restauarant, and a sometimes open bar under the plane trees. Visit the old record shop and remember your youth - or your parents'. The owner is wonderfully eccentric. This is a 40 min round walk. Bliss.
  • Clermont l'Herault is our bustling market town. We love it, it's never closed. Lots of lovely cafés, bars and restaurants. Fab market on Wednesdays, eat your fill with tasty samples from local vendors. Full of characters from around the area. Take camera.
  • If you can bear to break away from the pool, the beach is only 40 mins away. Marseillan Port is our favourite, we go sailing from there and this can be arranged for you too. Guests always get back before 4 o'clock for a 'rest'.
  • If you are staying longer than a couple of nights, book our self catering barns. Here you can cook, laze and generally chill. Most summer produce for meals here comes from the potager. Juicy tomatoes, sweet peas, snappy beans.
  • The area abounds with history. Visit the remains of Cathar castles , drive down many of the wonderful quiet windy roads where the scenery changes all the time. Stop at a bar, watch the world go by. Swim in the Lake. picnic in the vines, rest, recuperate.
  • Food and drink are two of the most important things in Languedoc; the area abounds with them. Our properties are surrounded by vines and olives. Our wine only travels 50 metres - you can't get much closer than that! Local wine is fab. Tastings arranged.
