The Experience

Circled by wooded hills in a regional park, the night skies here are stunning. Go up a country lane through vineyards to two barns and, at the top, your big lovely house built in Mediterranean style with its own pool.

Barbara has been here for years and leaves a generous arrival day ‘picnic’ of local goodies: cheeses, bread, salads, a casserole, wine and breakfast things for your first morning. The kitchen has ample space for whipping up meals for a big gang of you; or light up the fire pit in the garden. There’s a table for ten next to the lawn and rose tunnel or smaller tables dotted around the terrace if you fancy an early morning coffee in peace.

Come for a celebration or a creative retreat such as yoga, walking or cookery; loll about in the light-flooded living room: there are four sofas, a TV discretely tucked behind a wall hanging, piano, books galore and a floor-to-ceiling fireplace separating it from the dining room. Lushly decorated bedrooms, most en suite, await.

Reviews

Blissful hols at Le Manoir. So much right about this lovely place, where to begin? Pampered by gracious home that's comfy. Lovely courtyard, entering to high ceilings, openess, elegance blending French style & modernity. Grand lving room & dining, tall windows, piano, fireplace, travertine floors. Kitchen well equipped, welcome platters of charcuterie, baked goods, essentials. Excellent layout for sharing space but allowing privacy. Location in vines, minutes to restaurants, amenities. Near S Guilhume, Sete, Pezenas, wineries. End of day little touches abound, made this so special. Thank you

Alba and mike, Vancouver

I love this place and have known Barbara for many years. She is fun, resourceful, strong, and attentive to guests’ needs.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in the countryside away from the crowds but only a mile from Clermont L'Hérault which has shops, cafés and a lively Wednesday market. The pretty walled village of Villeneuvette is within walking distance too. It's hill country so find plenty of activities: hang gliding, cycling, trekking. Head to Lake Salagou (15 minutes) for windsurfing, swimming or boating; the coast is half an hour by car.

Local points of interest from Barbara Simpson-Birks

  • We sit amongst the vines in perfect peace apart from grape picking time when tractors abound and the smell of wine pervades the air.
  • Drive up our long and winding road and through the beautiful villages of Salasc and Moureze where there is wonderful walking..and on to Lag Salagu to parts the tourists don't know. Watch the wading birds have a picnic or go sailing
  • Go to Montpellier for the day and wander the lovely old streets selling chocolates , hats, gloves in mostly private shops. Find a lovely courtyard to eat and watch the world go by.
  • Go down to the sea . Meze is 30 mins away. It has a lovely small beach with lots of sea food restaurants. Whilst you are there visit Marseillan Port where Noilly Pratt is made
  • Bouzigues is at the heart of the oyster growing, oysters as fresh as they can be on the front of the Etang de Thau
  • The space is great for hosting creative courses & retreats- yoga, cooking, painting, art & we can help organise private catering for celebrations.Flop around our horizon pool. Cook up at the pool, in the open air. Grab a yoga mat and listen to the cicadas.

Introducing

Barbara Simpson-Birks

Barbara and Richard both ran successful businesses back in the UK before moving here for the climate. They built the two barns and main house and they love sharing their special places with guests. You won't find their children or grandchildren roaming here but you may meet the chickens.
