The Experience

This solid stone house on a cul-de-sac was once a lemonade factory and is now a charming chambre d’hote with enthusiastic owners who live in a separate apartment on the property.

A typically French breakfast is served in the dining room or on the pretty vine-covered terrace – ham, cheese, fruit, croissants, jams, bread. Dinner is also available on request – five courses using produce from the market and including wine and an aperitif, or you can walk to restaurants in the town.

There’s a guest sitting room where you can watch TV or read, and a small swimming pool for cooling off on sunny days. Your hosts can arrange wine-tasting and vineyard visits and there’s plenty of history nearby to explore in medieval villages. Wander the wonderful Olonzac market on Tuesday mornings, walk or cycle along the Canal du Midi.

We had a great time at Villa Limonade!! The location is perfect, Olonzac has a great choice of bars and restaurants and a colourful local market on a Tuesday. It's also surrounded by pretty wine producing villages, so wine tasting almost obligatory (happily... as it is delicious), vineyards everywhere! The Canal du Midi and its villages are within a very short drive. The Cite of Carcassonne (UNESCO site), Narbonne, Beziers are also within an easy drive away. Linda & Tony are great hosts, extremely personable and attentive, and dinner at the Villa Limonade should not be missed - delicious!!

We would like to thank you both for our lovely stay at Villa Limonade and especially for the warm welcome and your great hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed the ‘suite’ and you helped make Andrea’s birthday both comfortable and memorable. The breakfasts were extremely good and the evening meal on our first night was just the job after our cycle ride in the hills around Minerve. We will have no hesitation in recommending your chambre d’hôte to friends and guests.

Tony & Linda, thank you very much for your kind welcome last week. Olonzac is so well positioned for exploring the surrounding region & gives a good insight into the sleepy French villages throughout the area. I was very impressed with your welcome, the quality of the accommodation & the food. I love that the character of the property has been maintained whilst still offering super facilities for travellers. Overall I would say you have the Villa Limonade set up perfectly & I only wish the weather would have let me take advantage of the pool & outside area. But I will save that for next time!

I found this place interesting and appealing. The owners are dynamic and personable, anxious to do all they can to enable their guests to enjoy their stay at Villa Limonade. It is in an area of Occitanie which is rich in history and wine as well as not being too far from the Mediterranean at Narbonne Plage or Gruissan. It will appeal to all sorts of different people.

The neighbourhood

Olonzac has a very popular market on Tuesdays and the streets are lined with stalls – it’s as much a social occasion as a great place to buy regional food. There are good restaurants too - your hosts recommend Chez Bel, Côté Brasserie and O Portail. Carcassone (30 minutes) is a UNESCO heritage site and worth visiting. The small medieval town of Caunes Minervois (15 minutes) is famous for its pink marble and its 8th-century abbey, the village of Minerve (also 15 minutes) has interesting geological formations and is where the Cathars were besieged and killed by Simon de Montfort in 1210.

Local points of interest from Tony Hampson

  • Villa Limonade is a converted Lemonade Factory located on the edge of the village of Olonzac, with its famous weekly market each Tuesday, it is well placed within the the Minervois Wine Region and also only 2km from the UNESCO protected Canal Du Midi.
  • We are located equidistant between the medieval city of Carcassonne, also a UNESCO site, and the City of Beziers. Both these Cities have airports serviced by flights from the UK, as well as excellent rail links from all over Europe.
  • The area surrounding Villa Limonade has numerous vineyards producing some of the best French wines available. There is no better way to spend a sunny afternoon than a visit and tasting at a local vineyard -we even have our own Wine Master to run courses.
  • Narbonne is just a 30 minute drive away and has the famous Les Halles market which is a fantastic place to visit to see all the local fresh produce as well as eat at one of the many restaurants within the market hall that serve some of the freshest food.
  • The mediterranean coast is less than an hours drive away from Villa Limonade, with its beaches and marinas it is a lovely place to soak up the atmosphere unique to the South of France whilst sipping a chilled glass of rosé wine to complement your oysters.
  • The ancient town of Minerve, parts of which date back to before 1200 when the Cathars lived in the region, with its winding streets and excellent restaurants overhanging the gorge of the River Cessse is less than a 15 minute drive away.

Tony Hampson

Tony (who has worked in the food and drink industries in the UK) and Linda (a French and German teacher) bought Villa Limonade in the summer of 2018 although it had been a chambre d'hote for over ten years after being converted from a Lemonade factory. They’ve got a passion for everything French and enjoy hosting people from all over the world.
