The Experience

On its timeless wooded hill, the red sandstone farm cottage abounds with original stones, beams and terracotta floors; cookery books, strings of garlic and board games add to the laid-back feel. The ancient bread oven, its brick surround charred by the ages, lends a rustic air to the dark old kitchen while the sitting room is easy with comfy sofas and warming stove.

Attic bedrooms, simple and cosily carpeted, have small dormer windows to pretty views. French windows from the kitchen open onto a private outdoor barbecue area where you can dine with a backdrop of fields and woods, never-ending hills and hilltop Curemonte. There’s also a super walled-off pool, shared with other guests, and a vast oak-floored barn that you may use whenever you like: table tennis, billiards, dancing; it can be hired for weddings and workshops, too.

An unfussy, no-frills home in a lovely setting – the other house sleeps 12 for large parties.

Reviews

The Cottage at Fleuret shares the same magnificent views as the main house but it has a garden area in front that is entirely discreet. The terrace is the perfect place to enjoy al-fresco meals and drink in the view. Children can play happily and safely. Inside it has been sensitively restored and it is spacious place to enjoy cosy evenings summer and winter.

Sheila, Sawday's Inspector

First stayed in Fleuret Cottage in 2003 and have been back so many times. Booked for 2019 too! We just love this Cottage and the owners are so friendly. The local area is just amazing with fantastic views and quiet walks. Combine the ambience of the Cottage with the views, and the tranquillity of the area; we can't think of a better place to be.

James, Crowborough

We had an absolutely fabulous fortnight at Le Fleuret Cottage. The cottage had great facilities and everything that we needed but we really spent all our time in the private and shared outdoor spaces. The views from the swimming pool were unparalleled. Gilly and Tim were fabulous hosts, full of ideas of where best to explore locally and all the necessary insider information re shopping, restaurants etc. They were discrete hosts but always willing to chat over a glass or two of wine. It was one of the most relaxing holidays that we have ever had.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are wonderful spots in the garden from which to admire the views. You can walk to the village in half an hour if you're feeling hearty (however out of season you may not get dinner), or there are many other lovely walks. Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne and Collonges-la-Rouge are a 20-minute drive and have lots of choices for eating out all year round. Lou Pe De Gril is a charming shop in the village with local produce.

Local points of interest from Tim & Gilly Mannakee

  • Just 3km from medieval village of Curemonte with 3 Chateaux, for centuries part of the Viscounty of Turenne, and during the second world war briefly home to the writer Colette. Eat in our local restaurant and enjoy the weekly market.
  • Easy reach of many superb historical villages and chateaux including Turenne, Collonges la Rouge, Carennac, Castelnau-Bretenoux, Martel with it's seven towers, the abbey of Aubazine and of course Rocamadour.
  • Try the local walnut wine, or visit our local vineyard, Mille et Une Pierre. The area is renowned for magret and confit de canard and goats cheese The many local markets offer fresh, often organic produce, you may even get to sample our own produce!
  • Weekly evening market followed by barbecue in Curemonte throughout July and August- a great way to meet the locals and sample the local produce!
  • Walks and cycle rides from the house- routes provided and we have bicycles for hire.. Or hire canoes from Argentat or Beaulieu sur Dordogne and paddle down the amazing Dordogne River.
  • 3 golf courses within 30 minutes drive, the closest just 5 minutes away. We are just 30 minutes from Brive Valley of the Dordogne airport

Introducing

Tim & Gilly Mannakee

Gilly and Tim met when they both worked in the travel business and they discovered Fleuret many years ago. They brought up their children here, who attended local schools. The son of an architect, Tim project-managed the restoration and did much of the work himself. You’ll also see his photographs on the walls (ask about his courses on landscape photography). They are proactive and welcoming owners; there if you need them but discreet if you want privacy.
