This handsome 1930s Deco-style house in central Chalus makes an ideal stop en route to the Atlantic coast. The kind, attentive Antonaccios have designed an inviting ground floor guest room, in white and gentle colours with striped and toile de Jouy fabrics, in what was once the doctor’s surgery. The tiled bathroom with walk-in shower is behind a partition wall; the loo’s separate. And you’ve a cosy sitting area with sofa bed and brick fireplace. Breakfast’s in the main house, where light floods in on period décor lifted by some nicely quirky touches. There’s a heated pool in the garden and restaurants a short stroll away.
