The Experience

Warm and friendly owners give you generous breakfasts of homemade granola, fresh fruit, pastries from the bakery, homemade coulis, a cheese and cold meat board, hot chocolate and boiled eggs. All is served outdoors on sunny days on a large veranda at the back of the house to the sound of much birdsong. Wander down to the pretty pool with pergolas for shade, and a barbecue if you wish to use it for cooking lunch.

You’re near to woodland trails: roe deer graze, kestrels and hawks sweep the sky, kingfishers dart by the lake which you can also swim in. Within 4 kilometres you’ll find two villages for a shop and a coffee and the nearest decent restaurant is in Châlus, a nine kilometre drive. Julia also does delicious three-course dinners including wine – down by the pool area on balmy evenings.

Bedrooms have comfortable chairs with views over the lake but you can make yourselves at home with board games, cards and a TV in the drawing room.

Where to start - everything was wonderful; tranquil location, super comfortable cocooning bedroom and bathroom - thoughtful touches including homemade biscuits. Steve and Julia are friendly, knowledgeable and professional and helped us to discover the area, a region full of history, walking and lovely scenery. And above all, they very much took care of us - fabulous food, we dined every evening (walked during the day!), tasty breakfasts with homemade granola, and picnics for lunch - thank you, and we'll returning as soon possible, La Veille Maison d'Aurin is a destination not to miss.

Elizabeth, Toulouse

This was our second stay with Julia and Steve. They are very friendly and welcoming hosts. The rooms are very stylish with attention to detail. We had dinner which was copious and of excellent quality, and the breakfast is very varied and again of excellent quality. We have lived in and travelled throughout France for many years, and have paid a lot more for accommodation of inferior quality to this.

Diane, Villeneuve-sur-Lot

We had the pleasure of staying with Julia and Steve at at the beginning of August. From the welcome to the decor and the wonderful food, everything was perfect. The room was very comfortable and the bed was out of this world. We enjoyed the pool area in the afternoons after spending the days exploring the region. We are very glad we ate in for dinner on both nights as the food was fabulous, as good as any restaurant. The breakfast was also delicious with lots of choice and beautifully presented. We really enjoyed our stay are can't wait to come back next year!

Charlotte, Newbridge

This would be a perfect base from which to discover the hidden treasures of the Limousin area, enjoying Julia's generous and delicious cooking and sleeping in one of the beautiful big bedrooms.

Julia & Stephen France

Julia (whose parents ran a B&B) spent many holidays in France and eventually decided to settle here with her husband Stephen. She enjoys meeting people, cooking, gardening and collecting beautiful things which you will see in the house. They know the area backwards, so do ask them about the best things to see and do.
