The Experience

This early 17th-century stone and wood house was originally a chapel and has been thoughtfully renovated by the owner’s son, an architect. It’s on the edge of a lake, and although it’s one of fifteen houses on a large wooded estate it’s set far away from the others.

The view of the lake from the wooden deck and verandah is heavenly. There’s a spacious open-plan kitchen for cooking together, or you can fire up the barbecue – or drive ten minutes for restaurants in Sonzay, the nearest town. The sitting room has a fireplace with unlimited logs, and you can borrow books and board games.

There’s a shared heated swimming pool at the main house, and kayaks, paddleboards and bicycles to hire. The Loire Valley’s splendid châteaux are in easy reach – the gardens of Villandry and the lovely city of Tours are both only 30 minutes away.

This is only of the loveliest houses I have seen - because of its gorgeous setting, decoration and architecture. Although it is within a gated property you only need see others if you want to and the forest is at your front door for a complete escape to nature - but the famous chateaux of the Loire are all close at hand should you wish to explore the banks of the nearby Loire.

The neighbourhood

The house has a wonderful setting in 1,000 hectares of woodland and lakes and is something of a wildlife refuge. It’s close to the Loire Valley, famous for its châteaux and gardens. Nearby sights include the curious Roman tower of Cing Mars la Pile, 10 minutes away, and the medieval château of Langeais, 20 minutes away.

Bruno Chevreux

The owners have lived between Paris and the estate for 50 years. They love nature and architecture and have lovingly restored the 13 houses within the estate, adding lovely art and furniture as well as classic pieces. A member of their staff will be on hand to greet you and show you to your accommodation.
