This early 17th-century stone and wood house was originally a chapel and has been thoughtfully renovated by the owner’s son, an architect. It’s on the edge of a lake, and although it’s one of fifteen houses on a large wooded estate it’s set far away from the others.
The view of the lake from the wooden deck and verandah is heavenly. There’s a spacious open-plan kitchen for cooking together, or you can fire up the barbecue – or drive ten minutes for restaurants in Sonzay, the nearest town. The sitting room has a fireplace with unlimited logs, and you can borrow books and board games.
There’s a shared heated swimming pool at the main house, and kayaks, paddleboards and bicycles to hire. The Loire Valley’s splendid châteaux are in easy reach – the gardens of Villandry and the lovely city of Tours are both only 30 minutes away.
