The Experience
Katharina, Marcel and Fado the dog offer a tranquil retreat in their historic home, once part of the local monastery. In a wine-growing hamlet, five peaceful rooms from classic to contemporary, four-poster to panelled chalet-style, all mellow colours and white linen, period pieces and cosy fabrics. Bathrooms are fresh and modern. Bountiful breakfasts with home-made cake, yoghurt and fresh fruit are taken at one table in the airy dining room. Markets and châteaux are nearby; rent a bike or walk the Nature Park; read a book, visit the vegetable garden. Eat out or in: dinners start with a drink in the impressive wine cellar.

We stayed four nights in the chalet style room at the top of the house & loved it. Our friends stayed in a room across the courtyard on the ground floor, & were also pleased. Katherina & Marcel are welcoming & knowledgable hosts. K helped cure me of a croupy cough with hot Swiss tea! Their courtyard is beautiful, where we ate a delicious meal our first night there. The stuffed mushrooms & dessert of ginger/lime yogurt were my favorites. A go back to place!

What a lovely place with such with charming hosts. Marcel and Katherina excelled themselves. Everything was as described, from the lovely room to plentiful breakfasts and excellent dinners. Whilst we had been to this part of France before, Katherina recommended a number of excellent places to visit which were not so well known. Marcel entertained us with pre-dinner drinks in his cave/cellar before we ate with fellow guests outside in the courtyard; a magical setting. We left with very fond memories of a lovely couple and would definitely recommend a stay here.

This lovely house in a quiet village near Chinon is a haven of peace & relaxation. Hosts Katherine & Marcel are friendly & caring & using their extensive local knowledge, we made the most of our short visit, returning each evening to eat a superb home-cooked meal (with wine!) with them & fellow guests, having had a magical pre-dinner drink in M's magnificent underground wine cellar. (K & M speak fluent French, German & English so no-one's left out of the chatter). Our room and bed were very comfortable, clean & equipped with all we needed - water, tea, magazines, toiletries, . Just perfect.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Katharina Hirt
- We are in the heart of the Loire Valley and its famous chateaux and forteresses. At least 50 different historic buildings, gardens, churches, abbeys and stately homes are within one hour's drive. Closest are the medieval town of Chinon and its fortress
- Our village is surrounded by vineyards and within the Chinon wine area. The wines of Bourgeil, Saumur and Vouvray are also within easy driving distance. Which will be your favorite? Sparkling, white, rosé or red? Visit some vinegrowers, taste and find out!
- We are also located within the local nature park, Loire-Anjou-Touraine, with countless possibilities for strolling, hiking, cycling, canoeing, horse riding or even hot air balloon flights. A paradies for bird watchers , plant lovers and fans of fresh air.
- There is a market in one of the surrounding towns and villages on almost every day. Stock up with fresh fruit, sausages, smelly cheeses and crusty bread and go for a picnic on an island in the river, the park of a château or next to a pre-hestoric dolmen
- Our area is also known for underground sights. There are subterranian villages, restaurants, mushroom caves, sparkling wine cellars and even a zoo in a former stone quary. Or visit a château that is largely underground and features the deepest moat.
- And if you fancy someone showing you around, there are guided visits to Chinon by Segway, guided cycling excursions on old postman bicycles, guided wine tours, commented boat tours on the river, clay modelling courses and city visits with a greeter.

We stayed for three nights at this lovely B&B. We loved the evening meal that Marcel and Katharina provided which started with a drink in their underground wine cellar and then fabulous food. It was great to meet the other guests and chat over dinner in the outside courtyard. Breakfast featured a wide variety of delicious home-made jams to go with the croissants. We would thoroughly recommend this welcoming B&B.
