Feather duvets to cosset you, elegant breakfasts and dinners to delight you and nothing is too much trouble. Readers love it

More pretty 19th-century hunting lodge than grand château, la Villette sits in 40 idyllic acres of parkland, close to a huge spring-fed lake: borrow the row boat and potter. Capable, hospitable, generous Karin – dynamic gardener, fine cook – loves and cares for each inch of the place. A winding staircase leads to a beauty of a bedroom done in Biedermeier style, with a sloping ceiling and serene views; the second room too is seductive. Feather duvets will cosset you, elegant breakfasts and dinners at the convent table will delight you, and nothing is too much trouble for Karin.

"A truly special place to stay. Karin is a welcoming and generous hostess. We shared a memorable dinner with her where almost everything was from the garden and even the ducks were off the lake. Very comfortable room in such a delightful setting. Highly recommend"

"a glorious 3 days unwinding with the help of Karin, (and her sweet dogs). Karin made everything special. Delicious breakfasts, wonderful dinners, and most welcome cups of tea after days out exploring. We sat by the pool, walked in the woods, and enjoyed the beauty of this place. After 4 nights here we felt we were saying goodbye to a dear friend."

"We were made very welcome on arrival after a very early start. The rooms very comfy, aperitif by the pool and a 5 course dinner with wine. Breakfast at our chosen time and most adequate. We would stay there again, dogs most welcome also."

"As a Sawday B&B owner myself I take my hat off to Karin! This place is wonderful and I just don't know how she does it! The food is lovely, the setting is beautiful and Karin herself is totally unique! Wherever we go on holiday I always make a point of coming this way, just to stay here! Places like this are becoming so rare - carpe diem! Have just booked again for this year inspiring me to comment! Imogen Whitaker"
