The Experience
White shutters, beams, old stones, comfortable bedrooms, organic potager, communal breakfasts and generous hosts – quintessential Sawday’s. Rosalind, musician and philosopher, and John understand what B&B is all about and treat their guests as friends; sup with them on fine French food in the candlelit dining room and you will be charmed. The garden is entrancing too, all rambling roses, contemplative spots, even a little corner that is forever Scotland (like your hosts) and a Chinese bridge across a weeping-willow’d stream. Perfectly restful and welcoming after a day contemplating the glories of Chenonceau!

A delightful place to stay. Rosalind and John are fantastic hosts. We were welcomed with open arms and made to feel at home in their beautiful house with lovely gardens. We had a delicious supper with them, including a lot of vegetables and fruit from their garden and other produce from the local area. We were introduced to and toasted the 'new wine". The ensuite bedroom was very comfortable. Very conveniently located for Chenonceau and other Loire chateaux. We would love to return for a longer stay.

We spent two days with Rosalind and John at La Roseraie in the village of “St George sur Cher”while on a wine buying expedition in the Touraine reason of France, we stayed in a small delightful self contained cottage which was ideal for our purposes. Rosalind provided us with “La petite dejuner” with home made jam and locally sourced items.followed by advise on which vineyards and restaurants to visit.

John and Rosalind welcomed us warmly. We made several trips to Chenonceau on foot along the banks of the Cher, and also by boat passing under the famous arches. We visited a wonderful Flower Festival at the Chateau of Chaumont, and spent one afternoon picnicking in the garden at La Roseraie. I recommend you to read The Chateau by William Maxwell before visiting this delightful area of the Touraine. Kevin and Deirdre.

A peaceful place, well placed to see the wonderful sights of the Loire Valley. Rosalind and John were wonderful hosts . We stayed for four nights, and had Rosalind's superb food every night together with John's fantastic choice of wines. Supper was served on candlelit crisp white table cloths, with great attention to detail. We both loved this great place, and look forward to our next visit. Thank you. Bill and Ann Sisson.

"Quand je bois du vin, je bois du génie." Enhanced by your table de qualité, we enjoyed a most memorable dinner with laughter and bonhomie. It was such a tonic to us after a long day's drive: La Roseraie exudes elegance and calm; we have been thoroughly spoilt and love the ambiance of house and the garden with the pear tree in blossom and fragrant narcissi scenting our room. Enfin le paradis en France...

Rosaline and John were wonderful hosts and La Roserie was the most charming house with beautiful gardens. We stayed en route from Roscoff to the Alpes and it was a perfect place to overnight - only sorry we could not stay longer. Rosalind recommended a restaurant for dinner close by which was absolutely fantastic - before dinner we took a riverside walk which included a magnificent view of Chenonceau coupled with the hot air balloons floating over the chateaux - all in all wonderful stay.

This lovely house in its beautiful garden ensured that our two-night stay in June was a delight. Our room overlooked the garden and as it faced east, we were fortunate to have early morning sun streaming in. Our hosts, John and Rosalind, made sure that we were aware of all that the area had to offer and they were extremely knowledgeable about local walks, dining, chateaux etc. It’s a perfect spot to explore the Loire region, easy to access sites of interest, but tucked away to make sure that relaxation is also on the agenda. We can heartily recommend La Roseraie de Vrigny.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Rosalind Rawnsley
- La Roseraie is well placed for visits to all the principal chateaux - Chenonceau, Chaumont for the Garden Festival, Blois, Amboise, le Clos Lucé (last home of Leonardo da Vinci), Montpoupon, Chambord and Cheverny for the Tintin exhibition. Good cycling.
- Historic towns such as Loches, Amboise, with buzzing Sunday market and restaurants clustered round the castle, Montrichard, its ruined donjon brooding over the narrow streets and delightful boutiques, old Tours, Blois, Montrésor and St. Aignan are nearby.
- Not far away are trogolodyte mushroom caves, underground wine-tasting, the fascinating Aquarium de Touraine, the ZooParc at Beauval, a troglodyte silk-worm farm, the Tin-Tin Museum at Cheverny, boat trips on the Cher and the bathing beach at Montrichard.
- The famous wine-growing areas of Vouvray, Montlouis and Touraine are within reach. and many vignerons offer wine-tasting and vineyard tours and in Tours the Museum of Wine and the adjacent Trade Guilds Museum are worthwxhile destinations for a rainy day.
- Rosalind has been elected Chevalier of the Confrerie des Vignerons des Coteaux du Cher, and will be very happy to introduce you to the wines of the region, to offer suggestions for visits to producers or to organise a personalised wine tasting tour.
- Our collection of more than 160 roses old and new scent the extensive shady garden. Organic fruit and vegetables from the orchard and potager, and la Roseraie, without TV, background music or radio is a rare haven of peace and quiet. Wifi available.

We stayed here as a family for two nights on our way back to Ireland from a camping trip in Périgord. The two days spent here were as good as any on the camping trip. John and Rosalind are great hosts, really lovely people and made us feel so welcome. Their house and the grounds they are on are beautiful and it is perfectly situated to visit the numerous great things to do in the surrounding area. Thank you John and Rosalind for a great end to a lovely holiday.
