The Experience

Barbecue on the terraces, soak up the views, and listen to the children splashing in the pool. The landscape surrounding this former farmstead is rural and quiet in every season. Relax to the chatter of cicadas, the buzzing of bees, and the occasional hum of a tractor. At night the skies are studded with stars.

The Aveyron is like a place that time forgot, yet you’re ten minutes from civilisation. Turn right at the lane for little Lunac (3km), with its 12th-century church, bar, square and boulangerie. Turn left for La Fouillard (5.5km) for shops, cafes, restaurants and all you need.

There’s an inviting gîte for four (plus child) as well, which can be booked independently or together with the main house – whatever you choose to book, another group of guests won’t be able to book at the same time so you always have exclusive use of the pool and grounds.

Reviews

What a fantastic stay at La Braguese! We arrived at the house after a stress-free drive from Toulouse airport. Driving down the drive, the views were incredible. All of the instructions left by the owners made it very easy. The house is beautiful and very picturesque. We never got bored of looking out and taking in the fresh air. Gill and Ray the owners were very responsive to any questions we had when arriving and gave us plenty of recommendations. When going to restaurants, we booked two taxis from the guest book which was fantastic.. they were so reliable and helpful.

Gemma, London

Approached through countryside and at the end of a lane, and are at once struck by he views all round-rolling tree-covered hills and fields, absolutely peaceful. The house itself is extremely airy and clean and all the fittings are new and in excellent condition. The kitchen has everything one could wish for-it's probably the best kitchen I have used in 30 years of coming to France. We would unhesitatingly recommend this house for an ideal relaxed, peaceful and comfortable stay in this lovely area of rural France.

Ray and Francoise, Surrey

A beautiful house in a gorgeous rural location. We had a relaxing week and the house was extremely comfortable with a lovely pool.

Sophie, Oxford

What a marvellous please to stay, great place for my children and grandchildren to have great reunion plenty of space, very good central heating system and warm rooms. The Hosts were great at communication, will love to come again. Comfy Beds, fully equipped and will tell friends of this beautiful peaceful location but near to shops and facilities.

Dennis, Hertfordshire

The thing that most struck me most about being at La Braguèse is the light, the openness, space and peace of the area. Big sky and expansive views from every room. The house is beautifully furnished, comfortable and practical at the same time. This is an ideal house to have a big extended family holiday. There is lots to do in the surrounding areas for the whole family, walking, cycling, kayaking, para-gliding, markets and summer fetes, or just hanging out at the heated pool enjoying the sunshine. This is a very family friendly home from home.

Location

The neighbourhood

La Braguèse lies in a less wild, more pastoral area of the Aveyron. While the region may not be as well-known as the Dordogne, it's home to ten of “les plus beaux villages de France”, the closest of which is Najac (12km). Climb the winding streets to the fortress at the summit for a stunning panorama. Villefranche de Rouergue, a bit further, is worth trekking to for its fabulous weekly market, and the largest cloisters in France.

Local points of interest from Ray Ingles

  • Without having to move an inch, you can grab a pair of binoculars and enjoy viewing local birds of prey, wild deer and frogs in the pond. Night time is a treat for owl lovers and for star-gazers out there!
  • You're a 10 minute drive from the historic town of Najac, with its picturesque chateau rising out of the valley mist. Enjoy strolling along cobbled streets, with cafes, restaurants and artisan shops. A bustling market attracts locals on Sunday mornings.
  • With the Gorges de L'Aveyron nearby, there are plenty of adventurous activities to enjoy, such as kayaking, canoeing and swimming in rock pools. The Aveyron river has a number of watersports centres located along its winding course.
  • The Aveyron region is abounding in beautiful walks and cycling routes, varying in length and level of challenge. A number of Grand Randonnees footpaths pass through this area, and can be enjoyed at any time of year.
  • For those who love shopping, there is a very convenient retail park in La Fouillade, which has most things you need for your holiday. Within a 20 minute drive, Villefranche de Rouergue has an impressive array of superstores such as Leclerc and Bricorama.
  • Driving is an absolute pleasure in this region. No rush, no traffic. Leisurely drive through the beautiful rolling countryside, stopping off at one of many viewing points to enjoy a picnic or enter a local village for a refreshing drink. A perfect day out!
